Mavs Complete Day One At Sooner Invite

NORMAN, Okla. – The UT Arlington men's and women's outdoor track and field teams completed their opening day at Oklahoma's Sooner Invitational from the John Jacobs Track Complex on Friday.
 
Lucas Van Klaveren enters the final day of the decathlon on Saturday in great position to pick up a win as he currently sits in 2nd place with 3,734 points – just 13 points behind midway leader Kristo Simulask from Oklahoma (3,747).
 
Van Klaveren picked up wins and established personal bests in the high jump (1.95m, 758 points) and 400m dash (48.71, 875 points), and also finished 3rd with a PR in the 100m dash (11.17, 823 points) to highlight his day. Additionally, he secured marks of 6.33m in the long jump (659 points) and 12.21m in the shot put (619 points).
 
In the women's 100m, Erica Cormier-Jordan – competing in the event for the first time with UTA – advanced to Saturday's final with the 3rd-best qualifying time of 11.97.
 
On the men's side of the 100m, Seth Texada also moved on to Saturday's final as he set a PR with a time of 10.64 – also the 3rd-best qualifying time.
 
In the men's javelin, Brycen Ellis secured a 3rd-place finish with a throw of 46.45m. That delivery came on his first of six throws on the afternoon. It marks the freshman's second top-3 showing of the season in the event.
 
Competing in the heptathlon, Jade Bontke established a personal record in the high jump with a clearance of 1.69m to pick up 842 points. Later in the day she established another PR, this one coming in the 200m dash with a time of 25.12 to finish in 3rd place and collect 876 points.
 
The heptathletes competed in four of the seven events on Friday, as Bontke also wrapped up action in the 100m hurdles (14.94, 850 points) and shot put (10.14m, 539 points). Entering the final three events of the heptathlon on Saturday (long jump, javelin throw and 800m run), Bontke resides in 8th place overall with 3,107 points; her personal-best point total is 3,971.
 
In the shot put, Calyha Brown set a PR with a delivery of 13.97m, and that came on her final attempt of the night.
 
SATURDAY PREP
On Saturday, field events kick off the action at 9:30 a.m., with the resumption of the multis at 10:30 a.m. and running starting at 2 p.m. and concluding the 4x400m relays at 5 p.m.
 
Due to COVID-19, general-admission spectators are not permitted to attend. Live results will be available all meet via Delta Timing.
