Mavs Fall To Horned Frogs In Fort Worth

FORT WORTH, Texas – The Mavericks could only garner one hit on Tuesday night as the UT Arlington baseball team (16-20) fell to No. 8 TCU 9-1 at Lupton Field.

Riley Bost (L, 0-1) earned the start on the mound for the Mavericks, allowing three runs off four hits in 4.0 innings pitched.  Tristan Tom replaced Bost in the fifth inning, allowing five runs off five hits in the inning. Matt Novis tossed 1.2 innings, allowing one hit off a solo home run while striking out three batters.  Brayden Brooks and Brennen Smith each tossed one scoreless inning to end the game.

The Mavericks finished with just one hit in the game, coming from the second batter of the game in Phillip Childs. Dylan Paul finished with the lone RBI of the day, coming off a sacrifice fly. Andrew Miller and Cason Gregory each reached base due to walks.

Things looked promising to start the game as the Mavs went to work in the first inning loading the bases with a walk, single and error.  Dylan Paul took advantage of the bases loaded, hitting a sac fly to score the first run of the game.

The Horned Frogs struck back in the third inning scoring two, two-out runs coming off a single and a double to put TCU on top of the Mavs.

TCU added another run in the bottom of the fourth. A leadoff double followed by a stolen base gave the Horned Frogs a runner at third base. A ground ball to second base pushed the run home for TCU.

The Horned Frogs opened up the game in the fifth inning.  The first five batters reached base in the inning, scoring four runs along the way. After a ground out, another single scored the fifth run of the inning to give TCU an 8-1 lead.

The scoring continued for TCU in the sixth inning, using a solo home run to score the final run of the game as the Horned Frogs held on, 9-1.
