Mavs Bested in Pitcher’s Duel at Georgia Southern

STATESBORO, Ga. – A pitcher's duel ensued at J.I. Clements Stadium with a combined nine hits between UT Arlington (25-28, 13-10 Sun Belt) and Georgia Southern (30-22, 13-10 SBC).  The Eagles topped the Mavericks 3-2 to take game two of the three-game series.

Kody Bullard (L, 7-4) allowed just three runs off five hits in the loss. He fanned eight batters across 7.2 innings.  Brayden Brooks tossed the final out in the eighth inning.

UTA came away with just three hits in the game.  Josh Minjarez, Andrew Miller and Sam Gotlieb were the lone Mavericks to reach base.  Gotlieb drove in the two runs for the Mavericks.

The Mavericks took advantage of two Eagles errors in the second inning to put runners on first and second. Sam Gotlieb drove in both runners with a two-RBI double off the left field wall.

The Eagles responded in the third inning with three hits.  A double and single put runners on the corners before a sacrifice fly scored the first run.  Another single drove in the second run to the game.

A leadoff walk gave the Eagles a baserunner in the fifth inning and was brought home with a double over the leaping glove of Dylan Paul to give the Eagles the decisive third run of the game.
