Fawehinmi to Compete in Paralympics Long Jump Finals

UPDATE: Tobi Fawhinmi placed sixth in the Long Jump with a leap of 7.09.

TOKYO –
Former UT Arlington standout Tobi Fawehinmi will compete in the Long Jump Finals tonight at the 2020 Tokyo Paralympic Games.

Fawehinmi is scheduled to jump tonight at 7:30 p.m. CT and will be broadcasted live on NBC's Olympics website, which can be found by clicking here.

This will be Fawehinmi's third time donning the Stars and Stripes as he also competed for the United States at the Paralympic Games in 2012 (London) and 2016 (Rio).

A Mansfield Summit High School graduate, Fawehinmi was born with shoulder dystocia. In the 2017 T47 triple jump, Fawehinmi convincingly leaped to the first world title of his career (14.88m). Just one year prior, in 2016, Fawehinmi broke the world record for the longest triple jump among paralympic athletes with a distance of 15.53m (50-11½) at the NCAA West Preliminary Round.

In his two previous Paralympic Games appearances, Fawehinmi placed 5th in the triple jump in London and Rio; he also posted a 10th-place showing in the long jump in 2012.
