Benitez Announces Newest Signees To The Men's Tennis Program

6 New Mavericks Join The Men's Tennis Program

ARLINGTON, Texas– Head coach Diego Benitez has announced the signings of Lachlan RobertsonJoan Torres Espinosa, and Dante Carlos Teramo to the UT Arlington men's tennis team. All three players will join the team for the spring season.

Additionally, three other student-athletes joined the team prior to the fall season, including Bautista VilicichSantiago Giamichelle and Kritanta Sarma.

Lachlan Robertson
Vancouver, Canada
Weil Tennis Academy
 
Robertson is a Vancouver, Canada native and a 2022 graduate of Weil Tennis Academy, based in Ojai, Calif. Before attending Weil, he earned an MVP award in his high school tennis championships with Collingwood School in Vancouver in 2019. 
 
He also earned several titles from events outside of school, including a second-place finish at the Indoor Canadian Nationals U14. Robertson picked up championship titles from the Ojai Junior Open in 2018, as well as the ITA Summer Circuit in 2022. On top of that, he was an Eddie Herr Quarterfinalist in 2019.
 
Joan Torres Espinosa
Alicante, Spain
Ferrer Tennis Academy
 
Espinosa comes to Arlington from Alicante, Spain, where he represented his country individually and as part of the team at the European Championships this past summer in Switzerland. He trained at the Ferrer Tennis Academy before graduation, and his current ITF junior ranking is 132. His career-high ranking was 97 in April 2022.
 
Dante Carlos Teramo
Río Cuarto, Argentina
Monachesi-Hood Tennis Academy
 
A Rio Cuarto, Argentina native, Teramo competed for the Monachesi-Hood Tennis Academy before graduating. He is currently No. 449 in the ITF junior rankings and held a career-high ranking of 390 as of July.
 
Bautista Vilicich
Balcarce, Argentina
Mississippi State

Vilicich, a transfer from Mississippi State, joined the Mavericks in the fall. He was the primary No. 4 player for Mississippi State, posting a 6-10 singles record and 5-2 doubles record in the spring 2022 season. 
 
A Balcarce, Argentina native, Vilicich was ranked No. 281 in the ITF Junior World tennis tour prior to MSU. He is currently ranked No. 1,735 as of Nov. 21 in the ATP world rankings and held a career-high ranking of 1,145 in June.
 
In his inaugural fall season at UTA, Vilicich has picked up some key victories, including an 8-5 win in doubles against Texas A&M with partner Santiago Giamichelle at the ITA Regional Championships in Waco to advance to the main draw round of 16. He also advanced to the main draw at the ITF M15 Tournament in Lubbock.
 
Santiago Giamichelle
Buenos Aires, Argentina
Buenos Aires Lawn Tennis Club
 
Giamichelle joined the UTA roster in the fall as a graduate from SEAD and Florida Virtual School. He was ranked No. 163 in the ITF Junior rankings prior to UTA and was previously ranked No. 7 in Florida. In ITF matches, Giamichelle has earned five wins over top-100 ranked players, including one win over the number five ranked player in the world.
 
As a student, he earned all A's at SEAD, and was a straight A and B student in Florida.
 
During the fall season at UTA, Giamichelle picked up a big doubles win with partner Bautista Vilicich against Texas A&M at the ITA Regional Championships in October, advancing to the main draw round of 16. 
 
Kritanta Sarma
Guwahati, India
Assam State Team
 
Sarma came to UTA as a graduate of the Faculty Senior Secondary School. He was a National Series champion as well as the Doubles Asian Champion. Additionally, he was a CBSE Gold Medalist and the first player to get a Triple Crown title in both state and national championships.
 
Outside of tennis, Sarma earned the title of Model United Nations Best Delegate in state championships.
