FORT WORTH, Texas - The UT Arlington baseball team travel to Fort Worth on Tuesday night for a 6 pm game against the 8th-ranked TCU Horned Frogs.
UTA NOTES
- Three Mavericks homered over the weekend with all three being their first career home runs. Zach Henry and Matt Cavanagh both used solo shots against SFA for their first career bombs, while Steven Saunders launched a two-run home run against SFA.
- Transfer Wilson Galvan has started off the season on a hot streak, collecting a hit in each of his first five games played - the longest on the team. He is tied with Zach Henry for the longest reached base streak - also at five - after Henry failed to collect a hit, but was walked four times at SFA in game two of the doubleheader.
- The offensive uptick from a season ago has been evident early on in the season. Early in the season, the Mavericks are batting nearly 70 points higher than a season ago (.318 vs .251) and are averaging nearly three more hits and two more runs per game.
- Sophomore Cason Gregory is currently one of 22 qualifying players in the NCAA to have not struck out, making him the hardest to strike out in the NCAA.
- The Mavericks have six qualified starters batting above .300 this season - Zach Henry, Jaden Brown, David VanVooren, Cason Gregory, Wilson Galvan, Matt Cavanagh - compared to just one from a season ago.
- The Mavericks have come away with double-digit hits in five of their first six games and out-hit their opponent in four of the five games. The Mavericks didn't reach five games with multiple hits until the 28th game last season.
- UTA currently ranks in the top 50 in the NCAA in batting average (.318; 32nd) and sacrifice flies (4; 46th)
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | #8 TCU
- The Horned Frogs are currently 6-1 on the season are are coming off a three-game sweep of Nebraska at Globe Life Field.
- TCU is led by first year head coach Kirk Saarloos. He took over the reigns from Jim Schlossnagle, who after 18 season with TCU, left for Texas A&M in the offseason. Saarloos has spent the past eight seasons with the Horned Frogs as an assistant coach.
- David Bishop is off to a hot start for TCU, leading the Horned Frogs with 13 RBI through seven games. He is batting .385 and has a slugging percentage of .538.
- The Horned Frogs are patient at the plate, currently ranking 18th nationally in bases on balls with 47.
- TCU has been stellar defensively early on in the season, rarely making an error. Their .988 fielding percentage is the 14th best in the NCAA.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 171st meeting between TCU and UTA. The Horned Frogs lead 109-60-1 and 22-63 in Fort Worth. TCU swept the series last year and have won three of the last five. The Mavericks are looking to win their first in Fort Worth since 2020 when the Mavericks took down the #18 TCU 6-4 in 12 innings.
