ARLINGTON – UT Arlington men's tennis player
Miguel Cabrera has been named the Sun Belt Conference Tennis Player of the Week, announced by the league Wednesday morning. This marks his first Player of the Week honor of his career.
Following a week opening loss to Texas A&M, Cabrera helped the Mavericks rebound in a big way as UTA won their final three matches against Boston College, Rice, and Lamar. The junior from Santiago, Chile won the remainder of his singles matches at the #4 position and is second on the team in total wins with 15 on the season – a career-high singles win total for him.
He fared just as well in doubles action, where he – along with his partner
Anton Shepp – went 3-1 at the #1 doubles line. He now leads all Mavericks with eight doubles wins in the spring season.
The Mavericks have now won three straight matches and look to carry that momentum over as they begin Sun Belt Conference play this weekend at home against Louisiana (March 18) before traveling to Coastal Carolina on Sunday (March 20).
