UTA NOTES
  • This will be the fourth game the Mavericks have played at Globe Life Field (opened March 2020) in the past two seasons.  UTA opened their season a year ago with a 14-1 win over Tarleton State before taking on Oklahoma (L, 7-1) the next day and Texas A&M (L, 4-8) later in the season.
  • Freshman infielder Tanner Rice had a strong week at the plate last week as he slashed .444/.615/.444 across three games. He led the team in runs scored (5) and walks (4), while second on the team in RBI (3) and hits (4).
  • Redshirt freshman Zach Henry has been impressive at the plate this season, leading the Mavericks in batting average (.333) and on-base percentage (.515), while ranking second on the team in slugging percentage (.500).  His 14 walks on the year are double the next closest Mavericks (Jaden Brown - 7).
  • The beginning of the game has been a determining factor for the Mavericks. When leading after three innings, UTA is 4-0 on the season. On the flip side, the Mavericks are 0-11 when trailing after the third inning.
  • Junior Steven Saunders has made an impact when at the plate. He owns the highest slugging percentage on the team (.639), leading the team with seven extra-base hits (5 doubles, 2 home runs). He is also third on the team with 10 RBI.
  • Transfer Wilson Galvan connected on a solo home run at South Alabama on Sunday - his first career home run. Galvan is second on the team in RBI (11) and is tied for the team lead with 16 hits, along with Zach Henry.
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | DBU
  • Dallas Baptist enters the midweek contest with a 12-7 record and have won three straight games after sweeping Oral Roberts in Tulsa over the weekend.
  • The Patriots have used the long ball to their advantage this year, hitting 30 home runs - the 25th most in the NCAA.
  • Three qualifying Patriots are hitting over .300 on the season - Luke Heefner, Blayne Jones and Cole Moore. The trio has also accounted for 11 of the 30 home runs.
  • George Specht has been all or nothing at the plate, hitting .234 on the season, but hitting six home runs and two doubles. He has also struck out 19 times.
  • The Patriot pitching staff has held batters to a .226 batting average and has a combined 3.84 ERA - 45th best in the NCAA.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 80th match up between the Mavericks and Patriots. The yearly home and home series took a break last season due to COVID. The last time these teams met up, the Mavericks beat the 18th ranked Patriots in Clay Gould Ballpark.
