ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington baseball team (8-16, 2-4 SBC) will host the ULM Warhawks (8-14-1, 3-2-1 SBC) for a three-game Sun Belt Conference series at Clay Gould Ballpark this weekend (April 1-3).
UTA NOTES
- Texas Southern transfer Oscar Ponce has been a driving factor in scoring runs this season for the Mavericks, leading UTA with 22 RBI on the season, nearly double the next closest Mavericks. The senior hit his first home run of the season on Tuesday at Baylor with a solo shot in the 9th inning.
- Matt Cavanagh played an instrumental part to the Mavericks picking up their first Sun Belt Conference series win this weekend as the redshirt sophomore slashed .667 / .727 / .889 at the plate and drove in a team-high five runs, while score twice himself. He also led the Mavericks with eight total bases.
- Redshirt freshman Zach Henry has been impressive offensively this season, leading the Mavericks in batting average (.323), on-base percentage (.500), slugging percentage (.462), runs scored (13) and walks (17). His 17 walks on the year are more than double the next closest Maverick (Jaden Brown; Matt Cavanagh - 8).
- The Mavericks have played just one game where the opposing pitcher was a lefty, winning that game 4-3 over Nebraska. UTA will have two chances this weekend to face off against left-handed starting pitchers.
- The bats have started to come alive for the Mavericks, as the team has finished with double-digit hits in three of its last four games. The one game UTA did not achieve double-digit hits, it finished with nine.
- Outfielder Nick Pierce has quietly put together a nine-game on-base streak dating back to March 12 against Incarnate Word. It is the longest active streak on the team and third longest of the season.
