MONTGOMERY, Texas – Caleb Hicks posted UT Arlington's low round of the day,
Paul Gonzalez finished 3rd overall and the Mavericks wrapped up their regular season with the final round of the Bayou City Collegiate Classic from Walden on Lake Conroe Golf Club on Tuesday.
Hicks led the Mavs with a final-round 1-under 71 to tie for 11th overall at +5. However, it was Gonzalez – on the strength of an opening-round 67 – pacing UTA for the week as he closed in sole possession of 3rd place at -1 following a final-round 73. The Waxahachie native was one of just three players in the 96-player field to finish under par for the 54 holes as he missed out on a medalist playoff by only two strokes.
UTA secured a final-round 295 – its best of the tournament – to jump two spots on the leaderboard from the first day and finish in 7th place with an 898 total. FAU won the 16-team event with an 876 total by five shots over Sam Houston – one of the tri-hosts of the invitational.

INSIDE THE SCORES
- Gonzalez
Starting on the back 9, Gonzalez made six-straight pars to begin the round before consecutive bogeys on 16 and 17. His first birdie came on the 2nd to get back to +1 for the day before finishing with another bogey and birdie over his final seven holes. The solo 3rd finish is his second-best of the season, third top 5 and best showing this spring by far.
- Hicks
Four birdies propelled him 18 spots up the leaderboard from his overnight position. A mostly uneventful front 9 (the course's back side) yielded an even-par 36 with a birdie and a bogey, but his closing 9 featured three birdies and a pair of bogeys to come in with a 35 and his third under-par round in the last seven opportunities.
- Cox
Couldn't get anything going on a tough scoring day as he did not make a birdie and carded four bogeys and a double.
- Miya
An extremely tough opening 9 had him make the turn at +11 (47), but a great closing 9 featured eight-straight pars and a finishing birdie on the par-5 9th to come in with a -1 (35).
- Jones
After needing to withdraw from the opening day of action Monday, Jones posted UTA's second-best round on Tuesday with the 1-over 73. He rolled in a team-best five birdies, but also made six bogeys.
THIS AND THAT
UTA ranked 4th in the field in par-3 (3.28, +18) and par-4 (4.23 (+24) scoring average … Gonzalez led the field in par-4 scoring average at 3.92 (-2), and also tied for the most pars in the field with 38 … Hicks made 12 birdies to pace UTA and tie for the 3rd-most in the field.
