CONWAY, S.C. – The UT Arlington baseball team (11-27, 4-12 SBC) fell to Coastal Carolina on Friday evening, 4-3.
Tanner King (ND) started for the Mavericks, allowing two runs off six hits in 7.0 innings pitched.
David Moffat (L, 0-6) allowed two runs in 1.2 innings pitched.
Boone Montgomery led the Mavericks with two hits, scoring two runs.
Oscar Ponce hit his second home run of the season.
The Chanticleers put the Mavericks in a deficit to begin the game, scoring two runs in the first inning off a solo home run and a two-out RBI single.
King settled in after the first inning, keeping the Chanticleers off the board for the next six innings.
Coastal Carolina led off with two singles in the sixth inning, but three straight outs from King kept it a two-score game.
Boone Montgomery and
Wilson Galvan both came away with hits in the top of the seventh to give UTA runners on second and third. A sacrifice fly to the warning track by
Jaden Brown would score the first run for the Mavericks.
Moffat entered the game in the 8
th inning, putting the Chants down in order to give the Mavericks a chance to rally in the 9
th.
Montgomery led off with a single before
Oscar Ponce hit a two-run home run to left field to put the Mavericks up 3-2.
Coastal fired back in the bottom frame with a leadoff home run to tie the game. The Chants loaded the bases and used a ground ball up the middle of the infield to score the walk-off winner, 4-3.
UTA will look to take game two tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Springs Brooks Stadium.
