ARLINGTON - The UT Arlington baseball team will welcome App State to Clay Gould Ballpark this weekend for the final home series of the season. UTA will celebrate the careers of six seniors on Sunday before the game -
Tanner King,
Boone Montgomery,
Michael Wong,
David Moffat, and
Ryan Thomas.
UTA NOTES
- The Mavericks have been able to hold on to leads when taking them late into games. UTA is 11-1 on the season when leading after 7 innings.
- Over the past 19 games, senior Boone Montgomery has risen his batting average by over 150 points. Since April 6 at Tarleton, Montgomery has slashed .361/..410/.417 and has had seven multi-hit performances. He has reached base in 15 of those games.
- Redshirt Freshman Zach Henry leads the Mavs in nearly every offensive category. He sits at the top for batting average (.311), slugging percentage (.474), on-base percentage (.456), runs scored (27), hits (42), walks (24), total bases (64) and hit-by-pitch (12).
- Senior David Moffat has been stellar in Sun Belt Conference play this year. In 34.1 innings of relief pitching the righty holds a team-low 1.57 ERA. He has struck out 28 batters and walked just eight. It is also the lowest ERA in the Sun Belt in conference-only games.
- The UTA pitching staff has the second least amount of walks in Sun Belt Conference games this season. As a whole, the Mavericks have walked just 72 batters. The only team with less walks is Coastal Carolina (67).
KNOW YOUR OPPONENT | APP STATE
- Hayden Cross leads the Mountaineers offensive attack. He is hitting .309 on the season and has the 8th most doubles in the Sun Belt Conference (14).
- The Mountaineers are coming off a series loss to Georgia State last weekend, but did end the series with a win on Sunday, defeating the Panthers 10-7.
- This series will feature the two teams with the least amount of home runs in the Sun Belt this season. UTA has 17, while App State has 23.
- App State walks the second most batters in the Sun Belt Conference. Their 229 walks on the season trail only Little Rock's 240.
SERIES HISTORY
UTA and App State have played 15 previous games with the Mavericks owning an 8-7 record against the Sun Belt foe. This will be the first meeting in Arlington between UTA and App State since 2018. After winning eight of the first nine games of the series, UTA has dropped six straight against the Mountaineers with their last win coming in 2017 in Boone.
