NEW ORLEANS - UT Arlington junior pitcher Cade Winquest has been named the Sun Belt Conference Pitcher of the Week, announced by the league on Tuesday afternoon. It is Winquest's first Pitcher of the Week honor in his career and the first of the season for the Mavericks.
Winquest had a dominating performance in Sunday's game against App State, tossing eight shutout innings while allowing just two hits and one walk as UTA took down the Mountaineers 7-0. The eight innings pitched marked a career-high for the hard-throwing righty.
The Haslet, Texas native was able to put the Mountaineers in order in four of his eight innings pitched, including a four-pitch eighth inning. He struck out five batters along the way to picking up an important SBC win to keep the Mavericks alive in the race for the SBC Tournament.
Next up for Winquest and the Mavericks is the final regular season series of the season as they travel to Statesboro, Georgia to take on Georgia Southern with all three games being streamed on ESPN+. THe first pitch on Friday is schedule for 5:30 p.m. CT.
