ARLINGTON – UT Arlington head baseball coach Clay Van Hook has added Ben Breazeale to his staff as a volunteer assistant coach.
 
A former player in the Baltimore Orioles organization, Breazeale brings a wealth of experience to the Mavericks following coaching stops at Baylor and Arkansas and a decorated playing career at Wake Forest.
 
"I couldn't be happier to round out our staff with the addition of Ben," said Van Hook, who was hired on July 1. "His knowledge, along with his collegiate and professional playing background, adds tremendous value to our staff. He will be an integral part toward the development of our hitters, catchers and opposing team scouting."
 
Breazeale spent last season with Baylor alongside current UTA assistant coach Mike Taylor, who joined the Mavs last month following seven years in Waco. His primary duties included working with the catchers and hitters, as well as running the program's camps. BU hit .285 as a team, highlighted by 39 home runs and 141 extra-base hits, and catcher Cortlan Castle threw out 30 percent of attempted base stealers.
 
In 2021, Breazeale served as the graduate assistant at Arkansas under head coach Dave Van Horn. He helped develop the Razorbacks' hitters and catchers, helping the team to a 50-win season and a No. 1 national ranking. In addition, Arkansas hosted both a regional and super regional after winning the SEC regular season and tournament titles.
 
Prior to his time in Fayetteville, Breazeale spent four years with Baltimore. A 7th Round pick in the 2017 MLB Draft, Breazeale hit .318 in his first professional season with the Aberdeen IronBirds, the Orioles' short-season Class A affiliate, earning Short-Season All-Star recognition by Baseball America and being named a New York-Penn League (NYP) Mid-Season All-Star. He was also named the MiLB.com NYP Player of the Month for June 2017.
 
A four-year starter at Wake Forest, Breazeale batted .276 in his collegiate career with 179 hits, 36 doubles, 16 home runs and 106 RBI. His exceptional senior season included being named a Johnny Bench Award Semifinalist (top collegiate catcher in the nation), a First Team All-American (Collegiate Baseball), a Second Team All-American (NCBWA, Perfect Game/Rawlings) and a First Team All-ACC selection.
 
Breazeale graduated from Wake Forest in 2017 with a bachelor's degree in psychology and completed his master's degree in operations management from Arkansas in 2021.
