NEW ORLEANS, La. – The UT Arlington men's cross country team entered the USTFCCCA second week of regional rankings on Monday afternoon as they checked in at 13 in the South Central Region.
It is the men's first appearance in the regional rankings this season and the first time they have been ranked since the preseason regional polls in 2021.
The ranking comes at an opportune time as UTA has dominated the field thus far to earn two team victories in their first two meets of the season. The Mavericks scored 17 points with eight top 10 finishers in their opener on their home course to take home the team win and followed that up with 33 points at the Lumberjack Collegiate Invitational this past weekend with four runners in the top 10.
It's been a mix of young talent and tremendous experience that has guided the Mavericks thus far. Sophomore
Alfredo Reina Corona is off to an incredible start, winning the individual title at the season opener and following that with a third-place finish and a massive PR in the 8k this past weekend.
Junior
Patrick Estes, sophomore
Jeriel Algarin-Marquez, and sophomore
Jackson Cichon have all been terrific so far this season along with freshmen
Rogelio Aguirre,
Brian Guevara,
Andrés Gurrola, and
Josue Granados.
UTA will take this weekend off before returning to action on Friday, September 30 as they compete at the massive Chile Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Ark.
