Baseball Set To Host TCU

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (12-13, 3-3 WAC) returns to Clay Gould Ballpark this Tuesday, March 28, for a midweek game against the TCU Horned Frogs (15-9, 4-2 Big 12). First pitch is set for 6:30 p.m.

UTA NOTES
  • Coming off a weekend in which the Mavericks went 3-1, winning two over Northwestern and splitting with Houston.
  • UTA is 4-1 in their last five games, 5-5 in their last 10 games.
  • Hold a 3-4 record at Clay Gould Ballpark in 2023.
  • Come into the game 83rd in RPI, third best in the WAC, behind Grand Canyon and Sam Houston. 83rd has the Mavs ahead of powerhouses such as 2022 national runner-up Oklahoma (89) and Baylor (187).
  • Connery Peters is tied for third in the NCAA in saves with six and sits alone in second in the WAC.
  • As a team, the Mavericks are 22nd in the NCAA in doubles with 55 on the year. Tyson Pointer leads the way with 11, which has him tied for 16th in the country and third in the WAC.
  • In doubles per game, UTA (2.20) is tied for 56th in the country and first in the WAC. Pointer (0.50) is tied for 20th nationally and tied for second in the conference.
  • UTA is tied for 51st in the NCAA and third in the WAC in hits with 244. Ryan Black leads the charge with 37 which has him tied for 51st in the NCAA and is 5th in the WAC. Amongst freshmen, Black is sixth best. Garrison Berkley's 35 hits has him tied for 79th overall in the nation and eighth best in the WAC.
  • Tied for 77th in the NCAA and first in the WAC in hit-by-pitch with 35. Wilson Galvan leads the Mavs, being hit six times with Berkley coming in second on the team being hit five times.
  • The Mavericks are ranked 81st in the country and third in the WAC in home runs with 28 on the season. In their last five games, the Mavs have smashed 14 home run. Ben Lumsden leads the charge for UTA with 6 on the season.
  • The Mavs have yet to be shutout on the season.
 
TCU NOTES
  • Coming off a sweep of Kansas in the Horned Frogs first home Big 12 series.
  • Currently riding a five-game win streak.
  • Hold a 2-3 record on the road with a 4-2 record in midweek games in 2023. Have lost their last two road games.
  • TCU comes into the game carrying a .278 batting average, a 4.02 ERA and a .971 fielding percentage.
  • The Horned Frogs have homered in 11 straight games, with 18 total home runs coming during that stretch. 
PROJECTED PITCHING MATCHUP 
TCU LHP Braeden Sloan (1-2, 6.60 ERA) vs UTA RHP Andrew Lucas (0-1, 5.40 ERA).
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 176th meeting between the two programs, with TCU holding the edge with a record of 113-61-1. This will be the third and final meeting between the two on the season, with TCU taking the first game (7-3) and UTA snatching the second game (8-7). This is the first and only meeting at Clay Gould Ballpark for the 2023 campaign. The Mavericks hold a 34-38-1 record at home versus the Horned Frogs. The two programs have faced each other every year dating back to 1969.
 
NEXT UP
The Mavericks will head out west as they travel to Washington to take on the Redhawks of Seattle U on March 31 – April 2. This will be the third conference series for the Mavericks.
