Mavs Set To Battle No. 18 DBU In Midweek Action

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (19-17, 9-6 WAC) travels up I-20 to Dallas for a midweek match up against No. 18 Dallas Baptist (27-9, 12-3 C-USA). First pitch is scheduled for 6:30 p.m. at Horner Ballpark.

UTA NOTES
  • Come into the game carrying a 10-11 record on the road.
  • Winners of 7 of their last 10 ball games.
  • Come into the game 105th in RPI, this is third best in the WAC, behind Grand Canyon (94) and Sam Houston (98).
  • The Mavericks are 17-2 when leading after 8 innings of play with Connery Peters being tied for 25th in the NCAA in saves with six and second in the WAC. Gray Bailey has three saves on the year, with Zach Norris coming in with two and Matt Novis chipping in with  one, bringing the total number of saves to 12 as a team.
  • As a team, the Mavericks rank 15th in the NCAA and tops in the WAC in doubles with 84 on the year, hitting seven over the weekend. Tyson Pointer leads the way with 14, which has him tied for 36th in the country and tied for first in the conference. Garrison Berkley has 13 doubles on the season, tied for 65th in the NCAA and sits in fourth in the WAC.
  • UTA is tied for 64th in the NCAA in hits with 355. This has the Mavs ahead of powerhouses such as Miami and TCU as well as Dallas Baptist. Ryan Black leads the way with 51 while Berkley is right behind him with 50. Pointer is third on the team with 42. The trio of Mavs are all hitting above .300 on the season, with Black hitting .367, Berkley hitting .342 and Pointer hitting .311 on the year. 
  • As a team, the Mavs are hitting .285 for the season with a .456 slugging percentage. 
  • Tyson Pointer is riding a six-game hitting streak.
  • The Mavericks are ranked 119th in the country and fifth in the WAC in home runs with 39 on the season. Ben Lumsden is at the helm for UTA with 7 on the season, with Cade Sumbler, Ryan Black, and Tyson Pointer coming in with six for the year. Pointer hit two over the weekend.
  • The Mavericks have yet to be shutout on the season.
 
DALLAS BAPTIST NOTES
  • DBU is currently riding a 10-game win streak. They are undefeated in the month of April; last loss came against Louisiana Tech back on March 31.
  • The Patriots come into the game 18th in the RPI rankings.
  • Five Patriots carry a batting average over .300 into the midweek contest, led by Miguel Santos who leads DBU with a .333 average.
  • As a pitching staff, DBU holds a 3.84 team ERA which is the 18th best in the country.
  • 25th in the NCAA in shutouts for the year.
 
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 82nd meeting between the two programs, in a series that dates back to 1969. The Patriots hold a 45-36 edge over the Mavericks. This is the second meeting between the two teams on the season, with them meeting back early in the season on February 21. DBU won that game by a final score of 14-3.
