NACOGDOCHES, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (19-18, 9-6 WAC) travels east to Nacogdoches to take on Stephen F. Austin (17-17, 10-8 WAC) in a three-game WAC series showdown set to begin Friday, April 21, at 6:30 p.m.
UTA NOTES
- UTA is back in the top 100 in the national RPI rankings, clocking in at 100 in the most updated rankings.
- UTA is hitting their stride, holding a 7-3 record in their last 10 games with a season-high five game win-streak mixed in there. The Mavs have a 10-12 record on the road.
- The Mavs are 15th in the NCAA and first in the WAC in doubles with 86 on the year while ranked 21st in the country and first in the conference in doubles per game with 2.32 per game.
- Tyson Pointer has been hot of late, boasting a seven-game hitting streak while slashing .433 in that span with 13 hits overall, three doubles, three home runs and 12 RBIs.
- Freshman Ryan Black continues to impress as one of the top freshmen in the WAC, leading the Mavs with a .375 batting average with 54 hits in 144 at-bats on the year. He has 11 doubles, six home runs and 39 RBIs on the season.
- Gabe Starks stands as one of the best starters in the WAC, owning a team-best 3.47 ERA, fourth best in the conference while punching out 54 batters and holding opponents to a .193 average. Starks has started nine games on the mound for the Mavs, tops in the conference and 21st in the NCAA. Holds a perfect 4-0 record for the year.
- Garrison Berkley has reached base safely in 25 straight games, leading the team. Second on the team with a .344 average with 52 hits in 152 at-bats, hitting 13 doubles, one triple, three home runs and driving in 25 runs on the season.
- The Mavs have blasted 40 home runs on the year, fifth best in the conference. This is exactly double the total amount of home runs UTA hit all last season.
- UTA is tied with SFA as the most hit team in the WAC and 91st in the NCAA, getting plunked 49 times. Wilson Galvan leads the team and has been hit 10 times this season.
- The Mavs are the second most walked team in the WAC, drawing 165 walks on the season. Ben Lumsden leads the team with 22 walks for the year.
- UTA has yet to be shut out on the season.
SFA NOTES
- Come into the series holding a 6-7 record at home. 5-5 in their last 10 games.
- Alex Rodgers comes in at 23rd in the NCAA and second in the WAC in runs with 47 on the year. In runs-per-game, Rodgers is ninth in the country and tops in the conference scoring 1.38 times a game. Holds a .361 average with 11 doubles, one triple, eight home runs and 33 RBIs on the season.
- Clayton Loranger is hitting .394 on the year, fourth best in the conference and 51st overall in the nation.
- Hitting .296 with a .447 slugging percentage on the season as a team.
- Defensively, the Lumberjacks have turned 33 double plays on the season, 16th best in the NCAA and second in the WAC.
SERIES HISTORY
In a series dating back to 1986, UTA holds a 41-28 record over SFA. In their last 10 matchups, the Mavs are 6-4 versus the Lumberjacks. In their two games last season, the two teams split with the Mavs taking the last game by a final score of 12-2.
