MESA, Ariz. – The UT Arlington baseball team will start their run for a Western Athletic Conference championship on Tuesday, May 23, when they take on the Vaqueros of UT Rio Grande Valley at 6 p.m. Central (4 local Mountain) from Hohokam Stadium, the Spring Training home of the Oakland Athletics. The Mavericks come into the WAC tournament as the sixth seed while UTRGV is the seventh seed.
If UTA wins and fifth-seeded Abilene Christian defeats eighth-seeded California Baptist, the Mavericks will face top-seeded Grand Canyon on Wednesday at 9 p.m. CT. If the Mavs win and CBU beats ACU, UTA will play second-seeded Sam Houston at 6 p.m. With a loss, UTA faces the ACU-CBU loser at 2 p.m. in an elimination game.

UTA Notes
- The 54 home runs hit as a team is the fourth most in program history in a single season, surpassing the 53 hit by the 1993 team. This year's team trails the 56 hit in 1996 and 58 hit in 2003. The 1998 squad hit a staggering 72 as a team.
- Three Mavs hit over .300 during the regular season led by Garrison Berkley who hit .349, Ryan Black hit .341 while Wilson Galvan hit .303.
- Black was the lone representative for the Mavs on the WAC All-Conference team, being named second team as a DH.
- Galvan has reached base in 40 straight games, the longest streak on the team for the season.
- Berkely is 2nd in the WAC and 54th in the NCAA with 19 doubles on the year.
- In the WAC, UTA ranks in the top five in several categories: base on balls (3rd with 231), doubles per game (5th with 1.96), hit by pitch (3rd with 65), on base percentage (4th with .383) and sacrifice bunts (3rd with 21).
- During the regular season, as a team the Mavs hit .287 with a .441 slugging percentage and a .383 on base percentage. On the mound, the Mavs hold a 7.06 team ERA.
- UTA was never shut out during regular season play.
UTRGV NOTES
- The Vaqueros are coming off a sweep of SFA to end the regular season.
- Six Vaqueros are hitting over .300 on the season, led by Brandon Pimentel's .401 average at the plate.
- Angelo Cabral has made 13 appearances with 11 starts for UTRGV, posting a 9-2 record with a 3.39 ERA.
- UTRGV had two representatives on the WAC All-Conference team with Pimentel being selected to the first team and all-defensive team and Cabral named to the second team.
- As a team, the Vaqueros hit .301 on the season and posted a 5.57 ERA.
SERIES HISTORY
The Mavs took the season series earlier this year two games to one in Arlington. UTRGV holds the all-time series lead 26-22.
