ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington baseball team (25-21, 15-9 WAC) travels down I-35 to Austin to take on the Texas Longhorns (32-17, 12-9 Big 12) on Tuesday, May 9, at Disch-Falk Field with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 p.m.
PROBABLE PITCHING MATCHUP
Texas RHP Charlie Hurley (3-0, 3.95 ERA) vs UT Arlington RHP
Andrew Lucas (1-1, 5.65 ERA).
UTA NOTES
- UTA carries a 12-13 record on the road, 5-5 in their last 10 road games.
- Comes off winning a traditional weekend series that all three games were decided by one run, first time since 1991 that has happened.
- The Mavericks have 10 wins on the season when they enter the 7th inning either tied or trailing.
- As a team, UTA has hit 98 doubles on the year, which has them ranked 52nd in the NCAA. They average 2.13 doubles per game, 56th best in the nation.
- The Mavs have 472 hits on the season so far as a team, 61st best in the nation.
- Garrison Berkley has smacked 18 doubles on the year, tops in the WAC and 39th best in the NCAA. Berkley carries a .358 average for the year and is the only Mav to start in all 46 games.
- Wilson Galvan holds a team-high reached base streak which stands at 33 games for the year. Galvan is hitting .318 on the season with eight doubles, one triple and three home runs. He has been hit 15 times for the year, which has him 35th in the country.
- Ryan Black leads the Mavs with a .363 batting average and 50 RBIs on the season. His six sacrifice flies are tops in the WAC and 19th in the NCAA.
- Tyson Pointer has been one of the more consistent bats in the lineup for the Mavs this season, hitting .305 on the year with 15 doubles, one triple and nine home runs. Pointer has two games this season in which he has five or more RBIs, tops on the team.
- Tyler Rice has started at multiple positions for the Mavs and came up big in some key situations. In his 119 at-bats, Rice has been punched out 13 times, which is about a strikeout every 9.2 at-bats, making Rice one of the toughest hitters to strike out in college baseball, 89th in the NCAA.
- Ben Lumsden leads the Mavs with 11 home runs and three triples on the year as well as a team high .556 slugging percentage for the season. His home run total is seven more than the home run leader from the previous season (4).
- Matt Cavanagh carries an eight-game hitting streak and has reached base safely in his past nine games.
- UTA has yet to be shut out on the season.
PROGRAM HIGHS
The 50 total home runs hit as a team are the fifth most in program history, trailing the 1993 team who hit 53 for fourth most. The 1998 squad hit the most in the program record books with 72 for the year.
UTA is currently slugging .456 on the year as a team, if the season were to end today, this would be the sixth best team mark in program history and the highest mark since 2014.
TEXAS NOTES
- The Longhorns hold a 22-7 record at home while hitting .309 and the pitching staff has 3.50 ERA at Disch-Falk Field.
- Texas is hitting .290 as a team with 63 home runs, while the pitching staff holds a 4.09 ERA, 19th best in the nation.
- Dylan Campbell comes into the game riding the longest hitting streak in Texas baseball history at 26 games. Campbell is hitting .396 with eight doubles, two triples, four home runs and has swiped 12 bags during his hitting streak.
- Peyton Powell leads the Longhorns with a .357 batting average, posting 15 doubles, seven home runs and 37 RBIs.
- 29 of the Longhorns games this season have been decided by three runs or less.
- Texas is 2-0 against WAC opponents this season, defeating Sam Houston and Abilene Christian.
SERIES HISTORY
This will be the 76th meeting between the two programs, with Texas holding a 57-18 record all-time versus the Mavs. UTA is 17-56 against the Longhorns at Disch-Falk Field while 1-1 at neutral sites. The last match up came back in 2017 in Austin with the Longhorns winning 4-1. UTA holds a 2-3 record in their previous five meetings.
