UTA Product Zach Cole Named Men’s Golf Assistant Coach

ARLINGTON – UT Arlington head men's golf coach Casey Devoll didn't need to look far to find his program's new assistant coach as Zach Cole, former Maverick and UTA women's golf staff member, has been tabbed for the position.

Cole graduated from UTA in 2021 after a strong playing career, and spent the 2021-22 and 2022-23 seasons as an assistant coach with the women's program.

"I am really excited to have Zach joining our team. Being a UTA alum, he understands the intricacies of how things are done and is extremely familiar with the program," said Devoll. "The passion he shows for coaching is second to none. His demeanor and how he carries himself will benefit our student-athletes on and off the course.

"Even before he took on this role, Zach helped out at the end of last year for our final two tournaments," added Devoll. "We won the first one (the regular-season finale) and played great the last two days of the conference championship; I don't think that was a coincidence."

During the 2022-23 season with the women's program, Cole aided freshman Madison Le in producing the 6th-most birdies in single-season program history with 53. In his first season with the women's team in 2021-22, Cole helped improve UTA's numbers with 240 birdies – 102 more than the previous year – and a program-best par-4 scoring average. He also assisted in the squad producing its 2nd-best single-season team scoring average in program lore.

A native of Fort Worth and 2016 Arlington Heights High School graduate, Cole's initial foray into UTA came as a freshman in 2016-17, utilizing a redshirt season. Over the ensuing four years – beginning in 2017-18 – he registered a career scoring average of 76.5.

Cole's best performance came in the fall of 2021 with consecutive rounds of 68 and a career-best 67 in the first two rounds of the Little Rock Invitational in October. At the time of his graduation, that 135 (-9) total through 36 holes was tied for the 2nd-best in program history.

Cole has also caddied for numerous players at several different events, highlighted by being on the bag for former UTA head coach Stuart Deane at the 2017 PGA Championship from Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, N.C.
