ARLINGTON – UT Arlington head softball coach
Kara Dill has announced the addition of former Florida State Softball standout and 2018 national champion Elizabeth Mason to join her staff as an assistant coach.
"I am very blessed and excited to have this opportunity to join the UTA Softball staff," shared Mason. "I'm looking forward to the growth as well as the challenges that will come with my first season coaching at the collegiate level."
Mason comes to Arlington following her first season in the pro league where she helped Texas Smoke to the 2023 Women's Professional Fastpitch (WPF) Championship title. The utility player will be the second coach on the UTA Softball staff who is fresh off the professional playing field as fellow assistant coach
Fa Leilua played for Oklahoma City Spark.
From capturing the 2018 Women's College World Series title with the Seminoles to a WPF title, there is no doubt Mason knows what it takes to compete at the highest level.
"Elizabeth will make an immediate impact in our program," said Dill. "She is a champion by nature which brings an elite perspective and drive that is unmatched. Her passion for the game and desire to learn and grow will be influential to our athletes and their success at UTA."
Prior to her hiring at UTA, Mason served as the head coach for the 14U Central Florida Lady Dukes after helping her father coach his 18U Clearwater Lady Bomber Gold team. On the side, Mason also gave lessons and worked camps.
Utilizing a redshirt in 2017, the Florida native competed in an FSU uniform for five seasons (2017-2021). During her time in Tallahassee, Mason was a part of the 2018 national championship team where the
Noles defeated Washington in an 8-3 victory. FSU is just the third team in NCAA history to lose their first game of the
WCWS and come all the way back through the loser's bracket to win the title.
Mason accumulated multiple preseason and postseason awards as she was named to the WCWS All-Tournament Team (2018), ACC Academic Honor Roll (2019), All-ACC Second Team (2019), NFCA Southeast All-Region First Team (2019), Softball American Preseason Top 100 (2020) and Preseason All-ACC Team (2020).
After an incredible career, Mason ranks eighth all-time at FSU with 32 career home runs and the 10th-most RBI in program history with 146.
Mason holds a Bachelor of Arts in communications (2020) and a Masters of Arts in sport management (2021) from Florida State.
