ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington cross country teams will open up the 2023 campaign on Friday morning as they travel down I-30 for the John McKenzie Invitational hosted by TCU.
The event is scheduled to begin at 7:45 a.m. with the men's 5k, while the women are slated to follow with their 5k at 8:15 a.m.
The Mavericks will be joined by host TCU, North Texas, Texas A&M and WAC foes Tarleton and Abilene Christian.
"We're excited to get started and compete again," said Head Coach
John Sauerhage. "We're looking for all things positive tomorrow and to see what we need to improve on."
UTA welcomes back five letter winners from a season ago on the women's side, including senior
Mathilde Ruud and junior
Claire Compher. Sophomores
Rachael Hartley,
Krianne McBride and
Lauren Walls-Portillo look to build off their success from a season ago while six newcomers look to make their Mavs debut. Transfer
Isabel Borrego is ready for her first cross country season with the Mavs, as she competed in the indoor and outdoor season this past school year.
The men enter 2023 with nine returners, including
Rogelio Aguirre,
Patrick Estes and Alfredo Corona, all of whom finished in the top 40 out of over 100 total runners at the WAC Championships one season ago.
The men's team come into the season ranked 15th in the South Central Region of the Preseason Regional Rankings Poll released by USTFCCCA earlier this week.
