BRYAN-COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The UT Arlington cross country teams finished in the top three at the Texas A&M Invitational on Friday morning at the Dale Watts Cross Country Course.
This marks the third time in three meets this season that both the men's and women's teams posted a top three overall team finish, the women finishing third with 81 points and the men third with 129 points.
"Both men and women continue to compete well against stiff competition," said Head Coach
John Sauerhage.
On the women's side, UTA finished ahead of three teams that are ranked in the South Central Region by USTFCCCA. Those teams are TCU (eighth), WAC foe Abilene Christian (12th), and Houston (13th) respectively.
Matro Jepkemboi continues to impress, in just her second collegiate race she finished second overall with a time of 17:24.20. This marks the second week in a row she has placed second.
Winnie Kipsang finished eighth with a time of 17:55.20 while
Lauren Walls-Portillo rounded out the top ten, finishing 10th with a time of 18:07.80.
Krianne McBride placed 32nd with a time of 18:56.70 and
Isabel Borrego finished 36th with a time of 19:02.00, a personal best in a Mavs uniform, while rounding out the top five finishers for UTA.
Out of 118 runners, no Mav finished below 55th for the women.
On the men's side, the Mavs finished ahead of WAC foe Abilene Christian, whom is also ranked one spot ahead of the Mavs in the South Central Region by USTFCCCA. ACU is 14th while the Mavs are ranked 15th.
In the first 8k for the men this season,
Patrick Estes was the top finisher for the Mavs, placing 14th with a time of 24:36.10.
Rogelio Aguirre finished 26th with a time of 25:02.90 while
Jackson Cichon finished right behind him in 27th with a time of 25:03.40.
Brian Guevara posted a time of 25:12.00, finishing 31st while
Josue Granados rounded out the top five finishers for the Mavs, placing 36th with a time of 25:18.40.
"Now we train for two weeks and get ready for Arkansas and the Chile Pepper Invitational," said Sauerhage.

The Mavs will be back in action two weeks from now, as they travel to Arkansas on Friday, September 29, to compete in the annual Chile Pepper Invitational.
