Lady Mavs Explode In The Third Quarter, Cruise To A 73-49 Victory Over Tarleton State

ARLINGTON, Texas – The UT Arlington women's basketball team (5-8, 1-2 WAC) used a dominate second half en route to a 73-49 win over Tarleton State (4-8, 1-2 WAC) on Thursday night inside the College Park Center.

With the win, the Lady Mavs have pushed their winning streak to four games, tied for their longest in the past three seasons. The 24 points is the team's largest margin of victory on the season, and largest dating back to last season against Seattle U back on Feb. 11, 2023, when the Lady Mavs won by 26.

Four Lady Mavs finished with double figures, led by Adela Valkova whom continued her torrid pace, as she had 15 on 6-of-9 shooting from the floor as well as going a perfect 2-for-2 from deep. This is her fourth straight game reaching the double-digit plateau for scoring. She also pulled down a career high eight rebounds as well as dishing out three assists in 27 minutes of action.

Avery Brittingham has continued to be the catalyst for the Lady Mavs, registering double digits in scoring for the 13th game in a row, finishing with 13 points tonight on 5-of-10 from the field. She secured six rebounds, doled out three assists and had three steals in 22 minutes of play.

Taliyah Clark finished with 13 points on 4-for-6 from the floor and a perfect 4-for-4 from the free throw line. She also pulled down three rebounds and had one assist in 23 minutes of work. In 28 minutes, Gia Adams had 10 points, five assists, two rebounds and one steal.

The Lady Mavs had their best defensive showing of the season, holding Tarleton State to under 15 points in all four quarters. The first half was back-and-forth between the two, where we had six lead changes and were tied up eight separate occasions and we went into halftime with the Lady Mavs up by three, 28-25.

UTA exploded in the third quarter, scoring 28 points while shooting a whopping 61-percent from the field, as well as going perfect from three and the charity stripe. The 28 points is the most points scored in a quarter this season and the most scored in a quarter since Feb. 25, 2023, at Grand Canyon when the Lady Mavs put up 28 in the first quarter. UTA had their best scoring run, a 13-0 run, with 4:51 left in the third.

The largest lead of the game for the Lady Mavs came in the fourth, when they found themselves up by 27 with three and a half minutes left to go.
