Men’s & Women’s Cross Country Teams Both Finish Sixth At WAC Cross Country Championships

OREM, Utah – The UT Arlington men's and women's cross country teams put together solid showings on Friday at the Western Athletic Conference Cross Country Championships from Lakeside Park.
 
The Maverick women and men both posted 6th place finishes, with the men finishing with 167 points while the women finished with 182 points.
 
WOMEN'S 6K RACE
Matro Jepkemboi led the charge for the Mavs with a top 10 finish, placing ninth with a time of 20:39.71 to earn All-WAC First Team honors for the second year in a row. 
 
Sophomore Winnie Kipsang finished 22nd overall, just missing All-WAC Second Team honors, with a time of 21:39.34.
 
Kassandra Jimenez finished in the top 50, placing 49th with a time of 22:44.45 which is a new personal best. Claire Compher finished 55th overall with a time of 23:13.32. Lauren Walls-Portillo rounded out the top five finishers for the women, coming in at 61st with a time of 23:34.99.
 
MEN'S 8K RACE
Leading the way for the men was Patrick Estes, who finished 20th overall with a time of 24:17.52 and nabbing All-WAC Second Team honors along the way.
 
Rogelio Aguirre was the other Mav to finish in the top 40, placing 32nd with a time of 24:54.29.
 
Jackson Cichon just missed the top 40, coming in 41st overall with a time of 25:24.23. Brian Guevara was right behind Cichon, coming in 44th with a time of 25:34.50. Rounding out the top five finishers for the men was Andres Gurrola who placed in the top 50, coming in at 49th with a time of 25:40.87.
