Alex Kalmar’s Program Record Finish Highlights UT Arlington Track & Field’s Season Opener

BOSTON, Mass. – Two members of the UT Arlington track and field teams kicked off the 2024-25 campaign with a bang with two top 35 finishes and a broken school record at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener hosted by Boston University.

In his first action donning a UTA uniform, junior transfer Alex Kalmar broke a near ten-year school record in the men's mile run. Kalmar finished with a time of 4:03.61, which is a new personal best, and broke Emil Blomberg's record of 4:05.82 that was set back in 2015. Kalmar's performance also saw him finish in the top 20, placing 17th overall among some of the best distance runners in the nation.

In the women's one mile run, sophomore Winnie Kipsang posted a top 40 finish, placing 34th overall with a time of 5:04.11 in her first indoor action.
