Maverick Baseball Hit The Road For 4-Game Tilt Against UTSA

SAN ANTONIO – The UT Arlington baseball team will compete in their first matchup of the season in a 4-game series against the Roadrunners of UTSA (Feb. 16-18) before returning to Arlington. 
 
The first game is slated for a 4 pm start on Friday, then a doubleheader on Saturday at 12 pm and 3 pm. The opening series will conclude on Sunday at 4 pm. 
 
QUICK FACTS
  • The Mavericks are projected to place 5th in the WAC this season according to preseason coaches' poll.
  • With 8 true freshmen on the team, this will be the most first years on the squad since the 2021 season.
  • This will be the Mavs only series in the 2024 season that will feature a doubleheader, which is scheduled for Saturday.
  •  UTA was shutout just one time last year, which occured during the semifinals of the WAC tournament against Utah Valley. Before that, the last time the Mavs were shutout occurred on Apr. 1, 2021, against Texas State.
  • The Mavs were 12-5 last season when games were decided by just one run.
  • Last season, as a team, the Mavs cracked 111 doubles, the 8th most in team history, as well as 87th in the NCAA.
  • UTA slashed 56 home runs on the year last season, tied for the 3rd-most in school history.
  • Garrison Berkley was the only Maverick to appear in all 58 games last season. He led the team in batting average (.350), and doubles (20).
  • Both Ryan Black (57) and Tyson Pointer (51) attributed to over 50+ runs batted in last season. The last time a Maverick had 50+ RBI's in a season was in 2014 when Matt Shortall had 57.
 
SERIES HISTORY
Dating back to 2003, the Mavs lead the all-time series against the Roadrunners 26-15, with the most recent win coming Mar. 6, 2021. On the road, the Mavs also own a 13-10 record against UTSA.
 
ON DECK
The Mavs will return home to compete in the Kubota College Series against Texas Tech at Globe Life Field, Feb. 20 at 6 pm.
