ARLINGTON– The UT Arlington men's tennis team (3-2) is set to compete at the UTA Tennis Center in their Friday match against Rice at 2 p.m. Taco Casa will be providing free tacos to those in attendance.
The Mavericks are returning from the Cajun Tennis Classic, where they went 1-1 on the weekend. They lost to North Alabama in a close 4-3 match then came back to defeat Tyler Junior College in a 4-0 sweep.
In singles action,
Joan Torres Espinosa earned a strong 6-1, 6-1 win over North Alabama to put him at 7-2 on the season.
Dante Teramo also earned his seventh win, defeating TJC's Dan Persson 6-4, 7-6 (5).
Espinosa,
Solano Caffarena and
Yazid Lahjomri all remain undefeated in dual matches this spring.
Meethre Barot holds a 3-1 record.
In doubles play, Espinosa and Teramo hold a 5-2 overall record and earned their first spring doubles win against TJC.
Pedro Sasso and
Andres Medus are 2-0 in spring doubles matches.
SCOUTING RICE
The Owls are 4-3 in the spring season so far. They defeated Prairie View A&M and Lamar before falling to No. 5 TCU and Princeton. Overall, the Mavs hold a 1-18 record against the Owls. They earned their first win in 2022 4-2 in Houston. Friday's match will be the first time UTA and Rice are playing in Arlington since 2004, when the Owls defeated the Mavs 7-0.
