ARLINGTON, TEXAS – The UT Arlington Maverick baseball team will host the Arizona State Sun Devils at Clay Gould Ballpark, Tuesday, Mar. 5 at 1 p.m. This will be just the second all-time meeting against Arizona State.
QUICK FACTS
- This will be the 2nd time the Mavericks face off against the Sun Devils. In the 1st appearance against Arizona State, the Mavs won 5-3 in Tempe, Arizona on Feb. 16, 2001
- Maverick Aces' Caylon Dygert and Zach Norris have claimed back-to-back conference players of the week. With Norris winning on Feb. 26, and Dygert claiming his this week with a complete game on Saturday's win against Lamar University, 3-1.
- Throughout 12 games, UTA has allowed just 76 runs for an average of 6.33 runs given up per game. Last season, throughout 12 games, the Mavs had given up 93 runs for an average of 7.75 runs allowed a game.
- Jackson Hill was tabbed as the starter for Saturday and Sundays game against Lamar on Mar. 2-3 and has made an impact on the offense. The true freshman has recorded 5 hits out of 13 at bats. Hill also was the hero in the Maverick win on Saturday against Lamar when he roped in 2 RBIs to take the lead 2-1 in the top of the 8th inning. The Mavs later went on to win the game 3-1 thanks to an RBI single from Tate Bethel, his third of the early season.
- Caylon Dygert tossed just the fourth complete game from a Maverick since 2017 in his win on Saturday. The freshman from Magnolia, Texas tore up the mound with a 94-pitch game, striking out 4 batters. Dygert has proven himself to be a force in the Mavs rotation as he has the lowest ERA on the team (1.54) and has thrown the most innings for the Mavericks with 23.1 innings pitched.
ON DECK
The Mavericks, take on the Utah Tech Trailblazers in its first conference series of the year, Mar. 8-10 at Clay Gould Ballpark. Last Season, the Mavs swept Utah Tech during the season series, outscoring the Trailblazers 26-18 throughout the three-game set.
