AUSTIN, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field teams ended their regular season schedule at the Texas Invitational with several top-five finishers and personal bests set on Saturday at Mike A. Myers Stadium.
The women's 4x100m relay team consisting of
Alexis Cain,
Esther Shaba,
Adeyemi Talabi and
Madison Pippins led the way for the Mavericks with a first-place finish, clocking in with a time of 46.84. This is the fastest time this 4x100m relay team ran this outdoor season and defeated Incarnate Word, Texas A&M – Kingsville and Texas A&M – Corpus Christi.
Kaliah Jones tied her outdoor season's best jump in the women's high jump with a leap of 1.75m. It's the second time this outdoor season she has leaped 1.75m and ties her outdoor personal best. This leap earned Jones third place overall to give the Mavs their first top-three finishes of the day.
Freshman Khya Walton-Ravenell had herself a career day in the women's javelin throw where she finished second overall. Her very first throw of the day gave her a new outdoor personal record which was a throw of 42.05m. It's the third time this outdoor season she has eclipsed the 40m mark.
The men's 4x400m relay team consisting of
Lucas Van Klaveren,
Javaris Bonner,
Jarvis Miles and
Adam Herrera ended the meet with a bang for the Mavs, claiming third place with a time of 3:13.45. It's the second-fastest time of the 4x400m relay for the Mavs this outdoor season.
OTHER NOTABLE PERFORMANCES
- Brady Shadrick posted an outdoor personal best in the men's pole vault with a mark of 5.00m.
- Luke Bontke posted an outdoor personal best in the men's pole vault with a mark of 4.50m.
- Alexis Cain finished 6th overall in the women's 400m with a time of 54.67.
- Zaire Moore finished the women's 400m with a new outdoor personal best of 57.23.
- Pippins tied her outdoor personal best and her season's best in the women's 100m dash with a time of 11.32 for an 8th place finish.
- Zion Allen finished the men's 100m dash with a new outdoor personal best of 10.77.
- In the men's shot put, Desmond Fraizer finished 5th overall with a new outdoor personal best mark of 17.43m.
- Emilia Mandl finished 7th overall in the women's 800m with a new outdoor personal best of 2:13.55.
THOUGHTS FROM COACH
"Khya and Kaliah had season's bests as well as Yemi, overall it was a good last tune up for the conference championships," said head coach
John Sauerhage. "We are confident we will perform at our best at the WAC Championships."
NEXT UP
The Mavs will be off next week but the following week, they will be traveling to Orem, Utah to compete in the 2024 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships from May 9 through May 11.
