ARLINGTON, Texas – After five seasons leading the University of Texas Arlington men's golf program, head coach Casey Devoll is resigning to spend more time with family.
Â
Devoll has been affiliated with UTA for nearly a decade, having initially served as assistant coach for the men's program beginning in 2015. He later became associate head coach in 2016 and was promoted to head coach in 2019.
Â
"I've actually been thinking about it for probably a year," Devoll said. "In talking with my wife and especially my teenage boys, they wanted me to be around a little more. I have missed baseball games and practices, taking them to school and picking them up - just the simple things. I have really missed those experiences with them. They're going to be out of the house in four or five years, and I might look to do something coaching-wise after that. Right now, it is just time to be at home."
Â
Devoll produced numerous all-conference performers, with several players moving on to play professionally. Tanner Gore, who recently posted a runner-up finish, and Caleb Hicks are on the Korn Ferry Tour. Josh Radcliff is competing on the PGA Tour Americas circuit, and Zak Jones is on the APT Tour.
Â
"Casey has had a significant impact on our men's golf program during his tenure," said UTA Athletics Director Jon Fagg. "To see the number of players in the professional ranks from UTA is a testament to Casey's dedication to our student-athletes' growth individually, and the university collectively. We thank him for his contributions and wish him and his family all the best."
Â
This past season, Daniel Cronje highlighted the season with an epic win in an eight-hole playoff in the North Texas Intercollegiate Tournament in nearby Carrollton. Cronje finished third in the WAC Championship this season and will compete in PGA Q-School this fall with teammates Arran Kanth and Hiroki Miya.
Â
"I'll miss the guys and being around them," Devoll said. "They keep me young. I will continue to help them in any way I can. It is impressive continuing to see our guys grow on tour and seeing their successes. I'm texting with them all the time and will continue to stay in contact with them, along with the current roster."
