Jordan Stepp Named Associate Athletic Director Of Strategic Communications

ARLINGTON, Texas – With an extensive background in collegiate and professional sports communications, Jordan Stepp begins his role as Associate Athletic Director of Strategic Communications at UT Arlington in July of 2024. 
 
Stepp has vast experience in the collegiate space at both the university and conference level, as well as the professional sports side in Major League Soccer and the Arena Football League.
 
Stepp joins UTA's Impact Leadership Team following a three-year stint as the Assistant Commissioner of Communications at Conference USA. While in Dallas, he led the communications department and media strategy while also serving as the primary communications contact for football and the league at large. During this time at CUSA, he helped craft the communications strategy during realignment, including the addition of seven member institutions, and also served as a league representative alongside peers from other FBS leagues at the College Football Playoff's National Championship Game from 2022-24. In addition to his football communications duties, he also oversaw communications efforts for men's and women's golf (2023-24) and baseball (2022), while managing the media coordination and operation for the 2022 and 2023 CUSA Basketball Championships while in Frisco, Texas.
 
The sports communications veteran of more than a decade and a half made the move to CUSA after spending five years at the University of North Texas as the Assistant Athletic Director for Communications. While in Denton, he served as the primary communications contact for the Mean Green football program from 2016-20.
Before arriving in Denton, Stepp spent the previous three years at Cal in Berkeley, California, from 2013-16. During his time at Cal, Stepp was the primary contact for baseball, men's soccer, men's gymnastics and also spent two seasons with the track and field program; while also assisting with football and men's and women's basketball in a variety of capacities. He oversaw media operations of the 2015 women's NCAA basketball championships, as well as the 2013 and 2014 NCAA men's soccer championships in Berkeley.
 
Stepp spent the 2012 and 2013 seasons working as the PR and Media Relations Manager for the Arena Football League's San Jose SaberCats, acting as the primary football and organizational communications contact. In addition to media relations and public relations duties, he managed the team's social media avenues, as well the back end of the team's website. Stepp was also the point person for any crisis-management for the organization.
 
The Illinois native began his professional career as the Communications and Web Content Coordinator for the San Jose Earthquakes of Major League Soccer, serving as the organization's secondary media relations contact and web content producer from 2009-2011. In addition to that role, he also had a key hand in the organization's community outreach program and several of its initiatives. Stepp was part of the communications team that constructed a successful promotion plan for now-U.S. men's national team member Chris Wondolowski during his breakout 2010 season, where he won the league's Golden Boot award as the top goal-scorer; leading the Earthquakes to the Eastern Conference Final.
 
Stepp graduated from San Francisco State University with a bachelor's degree in broadcast and electronic communications arts, with an emphasis in sports broadcasting. While at San Francisco State, Stepp spent time as a sports desk intern at KRON 4 in San Francisco, and began his career in media relations as an intern with the Earthquakes.
 
He resides in Haslet, Texas, and has two children – Camryn and Taylor.
