CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas – The third and final day of the Jake Frederick Memorial Islander Open hosted by the Islanders of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi concluded in what ended as a great weekend of tennis for the Mavericks.
Doubles finals action started off the day, and the team of
Yazid Lahjomri and
Ian Uraga defeated Incarnate Word's Emilio Vila and Alejandro Hernandez 7-6 (3) to claim the top spot in the red draw of the East-Finals.
In the 3-4 playoff stage of doubles play, the team of
Pedro Sasso and
Andres Medus defeated Abilene Christian's Martin Delnido and Tomas Tischner 6-3.
In singles action, Sasso dropped a tightly contested match to ACU's Dennis Dutine in the East-Finals of the purple draw 7-6, 6-4, 8-6.
In the East-Finals of the green draw, Lahjomri fell to Charalampos Fouzas of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi 6-4, 7-5.
Medus fell to Rice's Petro Kuzmenok 6-0, 6-3 in the 3-4 playoff stage of the blue draw.
In the 3-4 playoff of the orange draw, Uraga retired due to injury against ACU's Alejandro Verdasco.
