DALLAS, Texas – The UT Arlington women's tennis team fell 4-0 to the Mustangs of SMU in their second match of the season on the road at the Styslinger / Altec Tennis Complex on Thursday afternoon.

The Mustangs were quick to take the doubles point, taking Court 3 by way of a forfeit and securing the point with a victory on Court 2. The pairing of Ana Paula Jimenez and Ioana Dumitrescu fell 6-3 to Drew Morris and Arianna Stavropoulos. On Court 1, the pairing of Valeriia Ivanovskaia and Mialy Ranaivo were trailing in the middle of a 5-3 battle with Ellie Pittman and Sophie Llewellyn before going unfinished.

Singles play followed similarly, with SMU earning the next three matches, Court 6 by way of forfeit.

Dumitrescu fell to June Bjork 6-1, 6-0 on Court 4 to give the Mustangs the 3-0 advantage before Pittman defeated Ranaivo 6-0, 5-1 to give SMU the 4-0 victory.

On Court 2, Jimenez was battling it out with Llewellyn, trailing 6-4 in the first match before it went unfinished. On Court 3, Ivanovskaia dropped the first match 6-0 to Morris and was down 3-0 in the second match before it went unfinished. Nika Novikova fell in the first match to Caroline McGinley 6-1 and was locked in a battle in match two 2-2 before it went unfinished on Court 5.

The Mavs return to action this weekend for their home opener with two matches starting with Cowley at 10 a.m. CT on Saturday, Feb. 1, followed by Dallas Baptist at 2 p.m. at the UTA Tennis Center.
