Lady Mavs Set Sights On Hawaii North Shore Showcase

LAIE, Hawaii – The UT Arlington women's basketball team is set to traverse across the Pacific Ocean for a tough three-game showcase on the island of O'ahu from Saturday, Nov. 22, to Tuesday, Nov. 25, with a day break in between the first and second game.

The Lady Mavs are set to take on two Power 4 teams in Colorado and Texas A&M along with a tough VCU squad inside the George Q. Cannon Activities Center on the campus of BYU – Hawaii for the Hawaii North Shore Showcase.

The tournament will be livestreamed on BallerTV and fans who wish to catch all the action can sign up for a BallerTV account and purchase an event pass for the low price of 20 dollars here.

This is the Lady Mavs second ever trip to Hawaii and first since 2003 when they took on the University of Hawaii where they came away with a 59-51 win in Honolulu.

UTA kicks off the spectacle with a tough Colorado team on Saturday, Nov. 22, with a 8 p.m. CT tipoff. The Buffs enter with a 3-1 record and a two-game win streak after an 83-53 drumming of Boise State on Tuesday, Nov. 18, and a 77-45 victory over Portland State on Sunday, Nov. 16. Colorado's lone loss came back on Wednesday, Nov. 12, when they fell to No. 21 Louisville by a final of 74-68. The Buffs opened the season with an 84-59 win over New Mexico, whom the Lady Mavs took on in an exhibition match earlier this season.

This is the second meeting all-time between the two programs, with the first coming back in Dec. 2023, in which the Lady Mavs fell 95-74 in Boulder. Current Lady Mav Jadyn Atchison was a member of that Colorado squad and played 11 minutes, finishing a perfect 3-for-3 from the field for six points to go along with two rebounds, one assist and one steal. Former Lady Mav player and coach, Jordynn Hernandez, enters her first season as an assistant coach with the Buffs.

After a one-day break, the Lady Mavs return to action against in-state foe Texas A&M on Monday, Nov. 24, with a 4 p.m. CT tipoff. The Aggies enter the showcase sitting at a perfect 3-0 and are coming off a 77-72 road victory over Kansas State on Sunday, Nov. 16. Texas A&M opened the season with an 81-43 pounding of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi back on Wednesday, Nov. 5, followed by a 79-64 victory over fellow WAC foe Tarleton State on Thursday, Nov. 13.

This will be the 13th all-time meeting between the Lady Mavs and Aggies, with UTA trailing in the series 3-9. The series dates all the way back to 1974 and this will be the first time the two have met since December 2007. The Lady Mavs picked up the first three wins in the series, dropping the next nine straight. At neutral sites, the series is tied up a three games apiece and this will be just the second time the two have met outside the state of Texas with the last time coming in March 2007 in the First Round of the NCAA Tournament from Los Angeles, Calif.

Wrapping up the showcase, the Lady Mavs are set to battle VCU on Tuesday, Nov. 25, with an 8:30 p.m. CT tipoff. Heading into the tournament, VCU holds a 3-1 overall record with their lone loss coming against Villanova, 74-40, from a neutral site in Toronto, Canada. The Rams are currently riding a two-game win streak after win over Howard (69-66 on Monday, Nov. 17) and Maine (81-77 on Friday, Nov. 14). VCU opened the season with a 62-48 win over Maryland Eastern Shore on Wednesday, Nov. 5.

This will be the second all-time meeting between the Lady Mavs and Rams, with VCU claiming the lone victory, 74-63, back in November 2013 inside the College Park Center.

This is the lone showcase the Lady Mavs will compete in this season, with it wrapping up their November slate of games.
