ARLINGTON, TEXAS - The UT Arlington baseball team embarks on its 55th season against the UTSA Roadrunners at Clay Gould Ballpark on Friday at 4 p.m. CT. for Opening Day.
The Mavs hold an all-time record of 47-33 over the Roadrunners and have a record of 26-13 at home against UTSA.
GAME NOTES
- UT Arlington comes into the 2025 season projected to finish seventh place in the Western Athletic Conference, according to the preseason coaches' poll.
- The last matchup between the Mavericks and Roadrunners at Clay Gould Ballpark occurred from March 6-8, which resulted in a three-game sweep (13-7) (9-5) (1-0).
- The Mavs feature five true freshman and 23 additional newcomers on the 2025 roster.
- The Mavs pitching staff held an ERA of 5.38 last season, which was the lowest ERA on the season since 2021 when the team held an ERA of 4.28.
- The Mavs were 14-9 last season when they scored first and were 13-2 when out-hitting their opponent.
- Last season, UTA held a record of 11-13 at Clay Gould Ballpark and held a record of 5-6 in their final 11 home games of the season.
- Caylon Dygert, a sophomore from Magnolia, Texas, made 14 starts as a pitcher, and appeared in 25 games as a DH/1B last season with the Mavs. He picked up 48 strikeouts and allowed just 16 walks while leading the team with a 3.79 ERA. The sophomore allowed just 38 earned runs across 90.1 innings pitched and picked up his first complete game in just his third-career start at Lamar (3/2/24) ... Offensively, Dygert raked in 11 hits in 33 at-bats with two doubles and slashed for five RBIs and a home run while holding an OPS of .921. He was named Second Team Freshman All-American by D1Baseball.com and won a conference player of the week award.
- During the 2024 regular season, the Mavericks boasted the second best walks allowed per nine innings in the NCAA with a mark of 2.94. Caylon Dygert led the way on the team with a 1.59 mark on the season, walking just 13 batters in 90.1 innings pitched and ranked 21st in the entire NCAA.
- UT Arlington is scheduled to play nine games against ranked opponents this season. A three-game series with #17 Oklahoma State, a split series against #20 DBU, a split series versus #23 TCU and a matchup down in Austin against the #19 Texas Longhorns.
