MBB: Mavs Host Tarleton State Saturday Night in Key WAC Contest

ARLINGTON, Texas – UTA men's basketball (12-14, 5-7 WAC) remains home on Saturday and hosts Tarleton State (11-16, 6-6 WAC). The game tips off at 7 p.m. CT, and will be broadcast nationally on ESPNU with David Saltzman (play-by-play) and Brandon Johnson (analyst), and on the radio on the Varsity App, 102.5 FM and KTNO 620 AM with the Voice of the Mavs, Josh Sours. As part of the Pack the Park initiative for this game, there will be several fan giveaways, deals in-game and a postgame concert featuring K CAMP. Tickets, which start as low as $5, are available here.

UTA is coming off a week where the Mavs split their two conference games, beating CBU on Feb. 13, 82-79 in overtime and falling 82-75 to Grand Canyon, both at home. Forward Raysean Seamster scored a career-high 29 in the win over CBU, helping the Mavs overcome a 17-point deficit in the second half. Forward/center Lance Ware registered his ninth double-double of the season, finishing with 11 points and 16 rebounds on Saturday against GCU.

Ware enters play Saturday ranking second in the WAC in double-doubles, one behind Seattle U's Matthew-Alexander Moncrieffe, who has 10. Ware is also one of just 10 players in the country that is averaging at least 14.2 ppg and 9.4 rpg.

Tarleton State, who currently sits in one game ahead of the Mavs in the WAC standings, also split their home games last week, falling 64-60 to GCU, and holding on for a 67-64 win over Seattle U last Saturday.

The Texans are led by head coach Billy Gillespie, who is in his fifth season as the head coach in Stephenville. Gillespie was the head coach at Ranger JC (2015-20), Texas Tech (2011-12), Kentucky (2007-09), Texas A&M (2004-07) and UTEP (2002-04), and has been an assistant at Illinois, Tulsa, Baylor and Texas State.

Tarleton State, who currently sit in fifth place in the WAC, is led by guard Bubu Benjamin, who is averaging a team-high 14.9 ppg and 5.2 rpg. Forward Keitenn Bristow (14.5 ppg, 5.5 rpg).

Saturday's meeting between UTA and Tarleton State will be the 16th all-time, with the Mavs leading the series 9-6.
