SPOKANE, Wash. – The UT Arlington track and field team showed up and showed out on day one of the Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships at The Podium.
First place finishes from
Randon Gray (Pole Vault),
Logan Villalva (Weight Throw) and the women's distance medley relay team consisting of
Emilia Mandl,
Zaire Moore, Kayan Green and
Winnie Kipsang highlighted a successful day one that sees the Mavericks go into the final day near the top of the team leaderboards on both sides.
The men's team head into the final day sitting in second place with 43 points, right behind Utah Valley with 61 points through five of 17 events. The women sit in fourth place with 39 points behind Tarleton State, 42, Grand Canyon, 46, and Utah Valley, 75, through six of 17 events.
As a team, UTA had 15 personal records and 11 season's best times/marks throughout day one of the meet. In the prelims, the Mavs have 13 athletes that qualified for the finals.
Randon Gray repeats as the indoor pole vault champion with a vault of 5.27m to claim the gold medal.
The men dominated the weight throw, taking the top two spots on the podium.
Logan Villalva won the gold medal behind a personal best throw of 18.67m.
Josh Hoekendorf won the silver medal behind a throw of 18.21m.
With a time of 11:44.42, the women's distance medley relay team consisting of
Emilia Mandl,
Zaire Moore, Kayan Green and
Winnie Kipsang are bringing the gold medal back to Arlington. The men's distance medley relay team of
Jackson Cichon,
Adam Herrera,
Kash Powell and
Rogelio Aguirre took home the silver medal with a time of 10:08.39.
Eliza Lemberga is leaving Spokane with a silver medal in the women's pentathlon behind 3785 points. She took the top spot in the 800m behind a time of 2:20.29. She set a personal record in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.14.
Matro Jepkemboi took the bronze medal in the women's 5000m with a time of 17:01.15.
ADDITIONAL POINT FINISHES
- Simona Cabella finished fourth in the women's pole vault behind a 3.78m vault to pick up four points.
- Adeyemi Talabi picked up four points for the women behind a fifth-place finish in the long jump with a leap of 5.78m.
- Brady Shadrick claimed two points in the men's pole vault, finishing seventh behind a vault of 4.77m.
- Jaalah Puryear picked up four points for the women in the weight throw, finishing with a throw of 16.35m and a fifth-place finish.
