SPOKANE, Wash. – The UT Arlington track and field team closed out the two-day Western Athletic Conference Indoor Championships with a day full of podium finishes, several personal records bested, and a conference meet record broken, as well as claiming a most outstanding track athlete award throughout Saturday in the Pacific Northwest.
The men finished third overall with 136.5 total points while the women finished fourth overall with 106 total points.
Alex Kalmar was named the Men's Most Outstanding Track Athlete after finishing the meet with three medals, two golds and a silver. Kalmar took the top spot in the mile run behind a time of 4:06.22. In the 800m, Kalmar took home the silver medal with a time of 1:50.60 behind teammate
Kash Powell who won the gold with a personal record of 1:49.78. Kalmar won his second gold medal of the meet as part of the 4x400m relay team along with
Eli England,
Adam Herrera and Powell with a season's best time of 3:12.49.
Reigning WAC Indoor Freshman of the Year,
Winnie Kipsang, set a new conference record in the women's mile. The sophomore ran a blistering time of 4:43.10 to claim the gold medal and break the meet record. Kipsang also took home the gold medal in the 800m behind a time of 2:07.97 while teammate
Emilia Mandl finished right behind her to claim the silver medal with a personal record of 2:11.19.
In the men's shot put,
Hayden Wilson repeated as the WAC indoor champion, winning the gold medal with a season's best throw of 17.22m. Teammate
Desmond Fraizer snatched the silver medal behind a throw of 17.09m.
Calen Jones took home the gold medal in the men's high jump with a new indoor personal best jump of 2.14m.
Matro Jepkemboi claimed the silver medal in the women's 3000m behind a time of 9:39.24.
In the heptathlon,
Luke Bontke posted a new indoor personal best of 5435 total points to leave Washington with the silver medal. Bontke posted indoor personal records in the 60m (6.99), high jump (1.78m) and the shot put (12.75m) while posting season's best times in the 60m hurdles (8.44) and the 1000m (2:42.70).
In the women's high jump,
McKinley Novacek won the bronze medal behind a season's best jump of 1.71m.
Alexis Cain leaves Spokane with a bronze medal in the 400m behind a season's best time of 54.90, besting her time in the prelims by .03 seconds.

- The men's high jump team showed out behind Calen Jones (Gold) with Miles Jones picking up five points for the Mavs behind a season's best jump of 2.05m and Jeremy Taylor picking up four points after a jump of 2.00m. Jonathan Williams picked up half a point behind a jump of 1.90m.
- Adeyemi Talabi picked up four points for the women behind a fifth-place finish in the 60m with a season's best time of 7.44 while Mikeya Washington grabbed two points behind a time of 7.54 and a seventh-place finish.
- Indyia Walton picked up two points for the women's team in the 60m hurdles behind a time of 8.75.
- Jackson Cichon picked up four points for the men's team in the 800m behind a season's best time of 1:51.55 and a fifth-place finish.
- Andres Gurrola picked up four points for the men's team in the 5000m behind a time of 14:46.23 while Patrick Estes snagged a point behind a time of 14:48.30.
- In the women's shot put, Esther Adedire picked up three points behind a throw of 12.66m while Alana Butler picked up a point behind a throw of 12.39m.
- Eliza Lemberga picked up three points for the women in the triple jump behind a leap of 11.67m.
