SACRAMENTO, California - The UT Arlington baseball team (6-11) will face the Sacramento State Hornets (11-9) to open conference play this weekend, Mar. 21-23.
The Mavs hold an all-time record of 6-3 over the Hornets, including a 5-1 record on the road.
GAME NOTES
- This will be the first conference series of the season for the Mavericks, and the first time the team opens up against the Hornets. Last season, the Mavs finished the Western Athletic Conference with a record of 16-15 and finished as the sixth seed.
- Tyce Armstrong, a native of Conroe, Texas, leads the Mavs in homeruns (4), RBI (17), hits (21) total bases (37) and batting average (.313). The redshirt junior also went 4-for-4 in the Saturday win over Little Rock on Mar. 15. He also had a homerun blast in the loss against Oklahoma on Tuesday.
- Sophomore Caylon Dygert and senior Caden Noah each collected seven strikeouts to help propel the UT Arlington Mavericks over the UL Monroe Warhawks 8-2 on Friday, Mar. 7. The 14 strikeouts in the game are the most in a game by the Mavs pitching staff this season.
- Through the Mavs' first seventeen games, UTA has faced high-level opponents with a combined record of 174-131. The Mavericks' schedule ranks as the second toughest in the conference thus far, behind Tarleton State, according to warrennolan.com.
- The last Maverick victory against the Hornets occurred last season on May 3, 2024, when UTA won in a 5-0 shutout. The last road victory in Sacramento came on Apr. 16, 2023 when the Mavs took the series in a 12-10 Sunday victory.
- The Mavs feature five true freshman and 23 additional newcomers on the 2025 roster.
- The Mavs were 14-9 last season when they scored first and were 13-2 when out-hitting their opponent. This season, the Mavs are 4-4 when scoring first and 4-1 when out-hitting the opponent.
