FORT WORTH, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field team throwers got opening weekend of the 2025 outdoor season started with an impressive showing on day one of the TCU Alumni/HS Invitational that culminated in a new program record.
Senior
Josh Hoekendorf kicked off the Mavericks outdoor season with a bang by launching a new program record distance in the men's weight throw while finishing fifth overall. The reigning silver medalist in the weight throw during indoor season, Hoekendorf launched his fourth attempt an astounding 58.84m which bested the program record which also belonged to Hoekendorf, setting it in 2023 at 56.83m before besting it this opening weekend.
In the men's discus throw,
Hayden Wilson finished with a new outdoor personal best after throwing it 48.09m on his first throw which saw him finish seventh overall. Teammate
Logan Villalva finished right behind Wilson in eighth after a throw of 47.28m on his sixth and final attempt.
On the women's side in the discus throw,
Abigail Flores and
Alana Butler both finished in the top 15 in the first meet of outdoor season. Flores finished 12th after a throw of 42.86m while Butler finished 14th after a throw of 41.51m.
NEXT UP
The UTA track and field teams will conclude the TCU Alumni/HS Invitational on Saturday, March 21, with running events beginning at 8:45 a.m. while field events begin at 9 a.m. In addition to the meet in Fort Worth, a portion of the UTA track and field team will make the trek down to Waco to compete in the Clyde Hart Classic hosted by Baylor with field events beginning at 10 a.m. with running events at 2 p.m. down in central Texas.
