ARLINGTON, TEXAS - The UT Arlington baseball team (3-5) will host the Sam Houston State Bearkats (2-9) this Wednesday, Mar. 5 for the first midweek game of the season.
The Mavs hold an all-time record of 49-56 over the Bearkats, including a 30-22 record at home, and will be the first time the Mavs host the Bearkats since April 11, 2018, which resulted in a 4-3 win.
Through the Mavs' first eight games, UTA has faced high-level opponents with a combined record of 53-17. The Mavericks' schedule ranks as the 13
th-toughest in the nation thus far, according to warrennolan.com.
GAME NOTES
- Throughout eight games, Xavier Melendez currently leads the Mavs at the plate with an average of .400, grabbing 10 hits in 25 at bats. He also is the only Maverick with a triple on the season.
- The Mavericks, throughout eight games, have three more hits (78) and seven more RBI (41) than last season up to this point.
- UT Arlington comes into the 2025 season projected to finish seventh place in the Western Athletic Conference, according to the preseason coaches' poll, and currently sit in fifth.
- The last matchup between the Mavericks and Bearkats occurred last season in a midweek matchup on Feb. 28, which resulted in a 2-3 loss for the Mavs.
- The Mavs feature five true freshman and 23 additional newcomers on the 2025 roster.
- The Mavs were 14-9 last season when they scored first and were 13-2 when out-hitting their opponent. This season, the Mavs are 2-1 when scoring first and 2-0 when out-hitting the opponent.
- Last season, UTA held a record of 11-13 at Clay Gould Ballpark and held a record of 5-6 in their final 11 home games of the season. This season, the Mavs have opened up 3-3 at home.
- UT Arlington is scheduled to play nine games against ranked opponents this season. A three-game series with #17 Oklahoma State, a split series against #20 DBU, a split series versus #23 TCU and a matchup down in Austin against the #19 Texas Longhorns.
