HOUSTON, Texas – The UT Arlington men's tennis team (6-5) have a full slate this weekend with two matches starting with Rice on Saturday, March 8, at 10 a.m. and concluding with Lamar on Sunday, March 9, at 11 a.m.
The Mavericks look to extend their season-long four match winning streak, a span in which they've surrendered only one point while claiming 18, over the busy weekend and look to improve their 1-2 road record.
UTA is coming off an impressive week that culminated in them earning their first weekly Western Athletic Conference honors in a clean sweep with
Meethre Barot being named the WAC Singles Player of the Week and the duo of Barot and
Pedro Sasso being named the WAC Doubles Team of the Week.
On the season,
Andres Medus leads the way for the Mavs in singles play, holding a 7-3 dual record. Medus has gone 6-1 on Court 2 while going 1-1 on Court 1 and 0-1 on Court 3.
Mattia Ricci holds solid with a 5-1 dual match record, going 3-0 on Court 4, 2-0 on Court 5 with his only loss coming on Court 3.
In doubles action, the duo of Barot and Sasso have solidified their selves as the top doubles team for the Mavs, holding a perfect 10-0 as a team on the season with a 7-0 record from Court 1 and a 3-0 record from Court 2. The pair continued their dominance this past week, picking up a 6-1 win over TAMUCC's Tom Berry and N. Niox Chateau followed by a 6-3 win over ACU's Benjamin McDonald and Daniel Morozov.
SCOUTING RICE
The Owls carry an 8-4 overall record into Saturday's match and are winners their last time out, 4-0 against the Islanders of Texas A&M – Corpus Christi. Rice is 4-1 in their last five matches. This will be the 21st all-time meeting between the two programs with UTA trailing in the all-time series 1-19, their lone win coming back in 2022 when the Mavs defeated the Owls 4-2 in Houston. The series dates back to 1990 and this will be the 18th time the Mavs have made the trek to Houston, holding a 1-16 record at Rice.
SCOUTING LAMAR
The Cardinals carry a 9-7 overall record into their Sunday match with the Mavs, falling last time out to Abilene Christian 6-1 in Beaumont. In their last five matches, Lamar sports a 2-3 record while holding an impressive 7-1 at the Thompson Family Tennis Center. This will be the 29th overall meeting between the two programs, with the Mavs holding the edge 27-1 in the all-time series. The series dates back to 1989 and saw the Mavs win the first 20 matches before dropping their lone match in the series in 2014. The last time the two met was two seasons ago in 2023 that saw the Mavs win 7-0. UTA is 13-1 all-time at Lamar.
