Mavs Host Baylor In Midweek Showdown

ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington baseball team (13-19, 5-4 WAC) will face the Baylor Bears (22-13, 6-9 BIG12) in a midweek matchup at Clay Gould Ballpark on Tuesday, Apr. 15, at 6 p.m.  
 
The Mavs hold an all-time record of 35-92 over the Bears, including a 22-35 record at home.
 
The Mavericks are on a five-game winning streak, the longest since the 2023 season. A victory against the Baylor will secure the Mavs longest win streak since the 2019 season (9-game winning streak)
 
GAME NOTES
  • In conference play, Joe Steeber currently ranks fourth in ERA, and second among starters, with a mark of 2.89 over three appearances. The Southlake, Texas native has allowed just one walk in conference play, while picking up 10 strikeouts over 18.2 innings pitched.
  • Tyce Armstrong, a native of Conroe, Texas, leads the Mavs in homeruns (7), RBI (25), and total bases (63). 
  • Last week, freshmen Austin Phillips and Cade Dodson put together an excellent week of hitting each averaging .500 over the four victories last week. 
  • In the series against Tarleton, the Mavericks blasted nine homeruns over the weekend. The nine homeruns are the most in a series since the Mavs jacked nine in a two-game series against Houston in 2023.
  • In conference play, the Mavs pitching staff ranks second in the WAC with an ERA of 4.32, allowing just 40 earned runs over a span of nine conference games. The staff also ranks first in runs allowed (50), home runs allowed (6) and third in hits allowed with (97). The Mavs have also only allowed only 16 walks in conference play, with the next closest team having 30 (Tarleton State)
  • Individually in conference play, Austin Phillips currently sits 10th in the conference with a batting average of .387. The true freshman transfer has put together 12 hits, tone homer, two doubles and seven RBI in eight conference games played.
  • Sophomore Nicholas Robb and senior Caden Noah pitched 10 innings of shutout ball against the Sacramento State Hornets on Saturday, Mar. 22. The duo allowed just four hits, a run while striking out ten batters.
  • Last season, UTA held a record of 11-13 at Clay Gould Ballpark and held a record of 5-6 in their final 11 home games of the season. This season, the Mavs have opened up 7-7 at home.
