PHOEINX, Arizona - The UT Arlington baseball team (13-23, 5-7 WAC) will head to the Grand Canyon this week for a midweek matchup against the No. 16 Arizona Wildcats, on Wednesday, Apr. 23 at 8 pm before heading north to face the Grand Canyon Lopes in a conference series from Apr. 25-27.
This will be the first time in program history the Mavs and Wildcats face off in a game.
The Mavs hold an all-time record of 2-2 over the Lopes and will be making their debut at the Brazell Field at GCU Ballpark. The Mavs hold a record of 1-0 over the Lopes in Arizona however, as the Mavs took down the Lopes in the WAC Tournament 6-5 to halt a 14-game winning streak, which at the time, was the longest in all of Division 1 baseball.
GAME NOTES
- According to D1Baseball.com, the Mavs currently have the toughest schedule within the Western Athletic Conference with the 19th hardest non-conference schedule in the country.
- In conference play, Joe Steeber currently ranks sixth in ERA, and third among starters, with a mark of 3.04 over four appearances. The Southlake, Texas native has allowed just two walks over 23.2 innings played in conference play.
- Tyce Armstrong, a native of Conroe, Texas, leads the Mavs in homeruns (9), RBI (32), and total bases (78).
- Cade Dodson, a native of Gunter, Texas, leads the team in WAC batting average with a line of .356 and is the only mav with a triple in conference play.
- In the series against Tarleton, the Mavericks blasted nine homeruns over the weekend. The nine homeruns are the most in a series since the Mavs jacked nine in a two-game series against Houston in 2023. freshmen Austin Phillips and Cade Dodson put together an excellent week of hitting each averaging .500 over the four victories during the week.
- In conference play, the Mavs pitching staff ranks second in the WAC with an ERA of 4.73, allowing just 58 earned runs over a span of twelve conference games. The staff also ranks first in earned runs allowed (58), home runs allowed (7). The Mavs have also only allowed only 27 walks in conference play, with the next closest team having 43 (California Baptist).
- The Mavs rank T-1st in the conference in double plays turned with 15, and have only grounded into three double plays offensively, which also ranks T-1st in the Western Athletic Conference.
- Sophomore Nicholas Robb and senior Caden Noah pitched 10 innings of shutout ball against the Sacramento State Hornets on Saturday, Mar. 22. The duo allowed just four hits, a run while striking out ten batters.
- Last season, UTA held a record of 11-13 at Clay Gould Ballpark and held a record of 5-6 in their final 11 home games of the season. This season, the Mavs have opened up 7-11 at home.

The Mavs will return to DFW for a five-game stretch starting with a visit to Lupton Field to play the TCU Horned Frogs on Tuesday, Apr. 29 at 6 pm. Then, the Mavs will host the Utah Valley Wolverines in a conference series from May 2-4 before hosting DBU in the next midweek matchup, on May 6.
