STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field teams closed out day one of the Joe Gillespie Invitational with a few podium finishes at the Tarleton Track Complex on Saturday.
The Mavericks had three podium finishes out of the 12 events on day one of the Joe Gillespie Invitational.
Allissa Rodriguez kicked off the meet for the Mavs with a first-place finish in the women's javelin throw. On attempt number four, Rodriguez threw her third best mark of the outdoor season of 40.69m which secured the victory.
In the women's discus throw,
Abigail Flores took the top spot after a throw of 47.01m on her third attempt. The distance is the second best of the outdoor season for Flores as she prepares for the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Outdoor Championships.
Junior
Lauren Baur concluded day one with a new outdoor personal record which culminated in a third-place finish in the women's 5000m run. Baur delivered a time of 18:22.44 which bested her previous record of 18:40.35 she set back in late March at the TCU Alumni Invitational.
ADDITIONAL TOP FINISHES
- Rogelio Aguirre ran the 1500m for the first time this outdoor season, finishing fifth overall with a time of 4:01.03.
- In the women's 5000m run, Racheal Hartley finished fifth overall with a time of 19:02.69.
- Freshman Shumpei Shigeta finished sixth overall in the men's 5000m run with a time of 16:42.38.
- Levi Bontke ran the men's 200m dash for the first time this outdoor season and finished ninth overall with a time of 22.08.

The Mavs will wrap up the second and final day of the Joe Gillespie Invitational this Saturday, April 26, before they prep for their final regular season outdoor meet next weekend.
