STEPHENVILLE, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field teams emphatically ended the second and final day of the Joe Gillespie Invitational with several podium finishes throughout Saturday at the Tarleton Track Complex.
The Mavericks had three podium finishes out of the 12 events on day one of the Joe Gillespie Invitational.
Josh Hoekendorf and
Logan Villalva kicked off the day with a pair of top finishes in the men's hammer throw. Hoekendorf placed second with a throw of 55.69m while Villalva finished third after a throw of 54.42m. It's both Hoekendorf and Villalva's second best throw in the hammer of the outdoor season.
On the women's side of the hammer throw,
Jaalah Puryear finished third overall after a throw of 51.28m, her second-best throw of the outdoor season.
The Mavericks took over the men's pole vault, having six of the seven top marks in the event.
Ethan Saenz claimed the top spot after a vault of 4.80m. It's his second-best mark of the outdoor season.
Brady Shadrick took third after a vault of 4.65m.
Calen Jones placed second in the men's high jump after a leap of 2.06m, his second-best leap of the outdoor season. On the women's side,
McKinley Novacek finished second overall behind a jump of 1.72m.
UTA once again reigned supreme in the shot put in an outdoor meet this season.
Hayden Wilson placed first overall on the men's side with an outdoor personal record of 18.33m while Desmond Frazier took second after a throw of 17.66m. On the women's side,
Alana Butler set and outdoor personal record after a throw of 12.44m.
Irene Badinga set an outdoor personal record in the women's triple jump with a 12.19m mark.
The Mavs took the top two spots in the women's 100m hurdles behind a pair of outdoor personal bests.
Zaire Moore took the top spot behind a time of 13.55 while
Indyia Walton took second behind a time of 13.83.
In the men's 400m,
Adam Herrera finished first overall with a time of 48.37 while
Ayden Nyanasimeibi finished third overall behind an outdoor personal record time of 48.59. On the women's side,
Alexis Cain finished second behind a time of 55.45.
In the 100m, both the men and women claimed a top spot. On the men's side,
Eli England finished third behind a time of 10.75 while
Madison Pippins finished third on the women's side behind a time of 11.66.
Krianne McBride set an outdoor personal record in the women's 800m. Her time of 2:13.62 was good for a third-place finish.
UTA closed out the meet with a one and two finish in the men's 4x400m relay. The team of
Adam Herrera,
Eli England,
Khalid Mendez and
Ayden Nyanasimeibi finished first with a time of 3:15.27 while the team of
Levi Bontke,
Christian Coker,
Brady Shadrick and
Brian Brown, Jr. finished second behind a time of 3:15.92.

The final tune up before the 2025 Western Athletic Conference Championships is on tap for the Mavs. The regular season finale with take place out in Fort Worth on Saturday, May 3, with the TCU Horned Frog Invitational.
