DENTON, Texas – The UT Arlington track and field teams took over the Bill Schmidt Invite with several top finishes throughout a cold and windy Saturday in Denton from the Soccer and Track & Field Stadium on the campus of North Texas.
The women's 3000m steeplechase kicked off the meet which saw freshman
Justina Lusby finish second with a pace of 11:48.24 in her first time running the race at the collegiate level.
In the men's 5000m,
Rogelio Aguirre finished second with a time of 15:07.13. It was his first time running in the 5000m this outdoor season.
The Mavericks took over the high jump event on both sides. In the men's high jump, UTA took the top two spots with
Calen Jones claiming the top spot with a mark of 1.95m while
Miles Jones took second with a jump of 1.90m. On the women's side,
McKinley Novacek took third place with a jump of 1.60m.
In the women's 100m hurdles,
Zaire Moore finished third with a time of 13.93, her second fastest time of the outdoor season so far.
Randon Gray continued his dominance in the men's pole vault with another first place finish after a vault of 5.25m. It's his third top three finish in the event this outdoor season.
In the men's 800m,
Daniel Armstrong finished second with a time of 1:57.33.
Alexis Cain claimed second in the women's 200m with a pace of 24.41 in her first race of the outdoor season.
Hayden Wilson took the top spot in the men's shot put with an outdoor personal best throw of 17.68m while Desmond Frazier took third place with a throw of 16.95m.
In the men's javelin throw,
Brady Shadrick finished third after a throw of 50.52m. On the women's side, UTA took two of the top three spots led by
Khya Walton who finished second with a throw of 37.48m while
Eliza Lemberga placed third after a throw of 36.45m.
Jaalah Puryear finished first in the women's hammer throw with a mark of 50.61m in her first outdoor action on the season.
ADDITIONAL TOP FINISHES
- In the men's hammer throw, Josh Hoekendorf finished fourth with a throw of 53.85m while Logan Villalva finished seventh with a toss of 51.68m.
- Eliza Lemberga finished sixth in the women's long jump with a leap of 5.47m while McKinley Novacek placed tenth with a mark of 5.22m.
- Brady Shadrick finished eighth in the men's long jump with a mark of 6.75m.
- Irene Badinga finished seventh in the women's triple jump with a leap of 11.06m.
- In the women's pole vault, Sophia Allen finished sixth with a vault of 3.35m while Heidi Schulten placed seventh.
- Esther Adedire finished fifth in the women's shot put with a throw of 12.22m while Eliza Lemberga finished seventh with a mark of 11.19m.
- In the women's 5000m run, Abigail Perez (sixth – 18:42.47), Racheal Hartley (seventh – 18:46.11) and Lauren Baur (eighth – 18:51.46) all finished in the top 10.
- The women's 4x100m relay team consisting of Mikeya Washington, Adeyemi Talabi, Alexis Cain and Madison Pippins finished fourth with a time of 46.48.
- The men's 4x100m relay team consisting of Eli England, Nick Ross, Khalid Mendez and Brian Brown finished third with a time of 42.10.
- Abigail Perez finished sixth in the women's 1500m run with a time of 5:07.50.
- In the men's 1500m run, Andres Gurrola finished ninth with a time of 4:09.92.
- Luke Bontke finished tenth in the men's 400m dash with a time of 50.56.
- In the women's 800m run, Krianne McBride finished fourth with a time of 2:20.10.
- Zaire Moore finished fourth in the women's 400m hurdles with a time of 1:06.19.
NEXT UP
The Mavs will be back in action at the 44 Farms Team Invitational hosted by Texas A&M in College Station. The two-day event begins on Friday, April 11, and concludes on Saturday, April 12.
