ARLINGTON, Texas - The UT Arlington baseball team (9-19, 2-4 WAC) will face the TCU Horned Frogs (25-8, 8-4 BIG 12) in a midweek matchup tomorrow, Apr. 8, at 6 p.m.
The Mavs hold an all-time record of 62-115-1 over the Horned Frogs, including an 37-44-1 record at home.
GAME NOTES
- The Mavs will look for its third-straight season with a victory over the Horned Frogs, as last season, the Mavs took down #23 TCU at home on Mar.19, 2024 for their second straight season with a ranked victory, and second straight season with a victory over the DFW foes.
- Tyce Armstrong, a native of Conroe, Texas, leads the Mavs in homeruns (5), RBI (21), hits (32) and total bases (54).
- In conference play, the Mavs pitching staff ranks first in the WAC with an ERA of 3.09, allowing just 19 earned runs over a span of six conference games. The staff also ranks first in walks allowed (19), doubles allowed (10) and second in hits allowed with (58). The Mavs have also only allowed one homerun in conference play, while the next closest team (Utah Tech) has allowed six.
- On the offensive side, the Mavs ranks second in the conference with 26 drawn walks, and are the only team in the conference that haven't grounded into a double play in WAC play.
- Individually in conference play, Xavier Melendez currently sits 5th in the conference with a batting average of .435. The Midland College transfer has put together 10 hits, two doubles and six RBI in six conference games played.
- Defensively, the Mavs have turned an astounding 10 double plays in six conference games. Which is tied for the most in the conference, yet despite only playing six games.
- Sophomore Nicholas Robb and senior Caden Noah pitched 10 innings of shutout ball against the Sacramento State Hornets on Saturday, Mar. 22. The duo allowed just four hits, a run while striking out ten batters.
- In the Sunday win against Lamar University, Joe Steeber pitched 8.0 innings allowing no earned runs while picking up seven strikeouts. In conference play, The Southlake, Texas native currently holds the third-best ERA with a mark of 1.98 throughout two starts.
- Last season, UTA held a record of 11-13 at Clay Gould Ballpark and held a record of 5-6 in their final 11 home games of the season. This season, the Mavs have opened up 6-7 at home.
